ok so i just bought a 6 bolt and trans for my awd 2g. i got the motor 5speed trans transfer case and drive shaft to swap into my 2g auto. is there anything else i need?axles?

Ok, but you can't use a 1g transmission in your 2g.
No agument, but why is that? I looked over the Magnus link and didn't spot anything relevant.

Sure, if you want to fab up 3 new mounts and adapt/modify/custom make a crossmember.

Anything's possible with design/fab skills and money. Just not sure why you would want to when the 2g transmission drops in.

OK, so the changes really are substantial, too bad, and thanks!

The 1g has 1 transmission mount and 3 engine mounts.

That Magnus document contains all you need to know to perform a 6 bolt swap. What parts to use from what generation, how to modify the driver's side motor mount, some problems you could run into (limp mode), how to wire in 1g CAS, etc.

2g awd trannies are uber expensive still and kind of hard to find manual ones
1g awd trannies are everywhere and cheap

any pics of said mounts so i can really see the differences?

I take it none of those are interchangable?
Why woudl the shifter cables be a problem? are the 1g's shorter? i haven't really read putting a 2g tranny in a 1g.
I think i might take a look sometime in my car and figure this out and see if ti's even worth it.

1g transmissions are cheap because most of them are all jacked up. Every transmission I had (besides the one that I just had rebuilt) all had messed up synchro's which led to messed up gears. If your transmission hasn't been rebuilt I wouldn't even consider going through all that trouble to put it in.

From the sounds, you're going to be spending a countless amount of hours trying to put in a 1g transmission not to mention the money you'll have to drop into it. You're better off with a 2g transmission that will bolt up to everything you already have with no modification necessary.

I thought I had messed up synchros and God knows what else until I was told at 123K to dump the transmision fluid and replace with Penzoil Synchromesh. I haven't had any problems since! In fact, feels at least as good as new, probably better because it feels faster!

What about putting all the guts of a 1g into a 2g bellhousing? is that possible? I plan on rebuilding a tranny anyway, I just can't find any messed up 2g awd trannys, and can get a 1g for free and buy a 2g bell housing.

hey guys, check this out, maybe there is some hope? i know its in a mirage but he said that 2g tranny is a bolt-in affair. So maybe a little insight, I know this is from a different forum but i also belong to this one as it's a local MN dsm site. So read and let me know what ya think? 1g in a 2g not that bad? just got a new winter car 95 mirage coupe - Page 3 - MitsuStyle
