6 bolt 2.4 crank cast or forged?

hey guys, my name is ray and ive been on the 3SI boards for years and have had many 3000GTs. i also have a galant vr4 so i registered to this forum. ive been searching on here and i cant seem to find out if the 6 bolt 2.4 crankshaft is forged or cast. any input on that would be great or a usefull link.

The 6 bolt cranks are forged from the factory.

Thought they were cast and the 6 bolts where nitrided.

ive been checking with some local crank grinders and theyre saying the ones they have are cast. im hoping to find what application had forged ie. expo, galant. im sure you guys been through all this and someone should know all the details.

Why?
I know "who doesn't want a forged crank if its available " but the cast factory cranks have shown to be up to the task of,well...what ever you can throw at it.

is that what you guys have been finding? with the 3000GTs, the cast cranks have cracks when magnifluxed after one season in a 500awhp car. the forged ones last much longer.

have you guys been running cast cranks with no problems over time? if so that would make it a little easier.

I believe John Shepard uses a stock lightened cast crank from a 6 bolt.

Hes making 800awhp.

Yes,there are no forged cranks that I know of but the cast will hold pretty much anything.

I cant say about the 2.4 cranks but my 6 bolt 2.0 crank is forged. If you can get pics or see the crank before you purchase it, you can tell which it is. A cast crank has a very thin casting line on it, but if it is a wide area as if the casting line has been ground off, it is forged. I hope this makes sense but if not, pm me and I will elaborate.

thanks alot...heres the thing. i want to get one from a parts store or crank grinder. the crank grinders say that thyre cast. the parts store guys have no idea and i cant return it if i dont want it. so i cant take a look at these things. so if they are all cast then ill just buy one. if some are forged id like to find out what car the listing is so i atleast can try that route. the crank that is in my 2.0 is forged also.

800hp doesn't trap at 165mph. Try > 1000hp. And its shepherd.
