Hello I have a stock 94 GSX with the only mods being a FP18G turbo. Recently the car started acting up. First it would start shaking in every gear but more violent with faster speeds. then today all of a sudden I blew a tire and changed that and as soon as I took back off again it felt exactly like the clutch was slipping badly.

The weird thing is when I take off, it will barely creep forward with the rpm's at about 4000 but the speedometer goes up with the revs but the car barely creeps forward. It can't be the clutch because the speedometer is following the revs not actual speed. I'm leaning towards the viscous coupler in the tranny or maybe the tranny itself.

I don't think it's the transfer case cause usually those lock up when they fail. The only other useful thing I can say is I can literally put the car in first gear at idle and let go of the clutch and rev it with the ebrake up and nothing happens except it tries to creep forward but it makes this sound from the tranny that kinda sounds like what you here when in reverse going backwards.

Please help.

Sure sounds like one of the viscous is gone, center most likely. Anything like silicone coming out of the trans? I would suggest changing the fluid at least if you don't want to swap it out.
Smell any burning smells? like the clutch at all? hot metal or cancerous material? LOL

At the very least check the level of gear oil in the trans.

Have the dumbest friend you know look at the driveshaft while your trying to move in 1st gear, see if the driveshaft spins!

Not really any smells. maybe a light clutch burn smell though. How do i get to the center viscous coupler? Where is it? are you guy6s pretty sure its that? When I pull it out can I check it to see if its bad? Thanks for all the help.

As far as the not 5th gear 1g's are very well known for having this nut come loose on the left. Pull the outer cover and see if it's lose. Make sure not to lose the wave spring. Should be torque'd to 114ft/lbs.

No you just need to make sure it's tight. If it isn't it usually causes a 5th gear shifter movement. I have actually taken the outer case off on cars and seen it completely loose only 2-3 turns on.

Can we please get back on track with my problem? I'm trying to sound hrash here but that nut isn't loose I already checked it. I need to get my car fixed please tell if you guy's think it's the center viscous coupler?, and if so how do I check it.

Check to see if your front driverside drive shaft came out of the transmission. I've had this problem three times this year, the bolts on the intermediate shaft's bracket backed out. the shaft will come out of the transmission just enough that the splines aren't in, and the car will barely move. Feels like the clutch is slipping. I had to locktite the bracket bolt to keep it from backing out finally after three times iof it happening.

Also you better put about a quart of gear oil back in the transmission as I lost a quart when it happened to me. Better to check that then to have something in the transmission break or something.

Check that bracket on the driver side shaft!! I thought I had major transmission problems until I heard that bracket vibrating against the down pipe. You got to pick the front end up, and have someone turn the tire back, and forth to work the shaft back into the splines. You can bolt the bracket back up from under the hood. Ten minute fix. G/L!

I hope your right!!! I will try this tomorrow and I'll report back with what I find.

Okay checked it all out and this is what I found. The passenger side cv axle axle came apart inside the boot on the hub side. Literally the only thing holding the axle together was the boot. Weirdest thing I've seen with a cv axle in a long time. Well, thanks for the great help. Snakeyes I'm definitely going to give you some rep points. The problem wasn't what you said but it got me checking the cv axles so thank you.

:applause::applause:Glad to get you going in the right direction for the fix!:thumb: I have an extra one if your interested. still good, when I installed my transmission, I bought two new axles for it, PM me. Glad to help.

Not sure bout 4wd but if the symptoms like yours happen. Most likey the axle came out of the tranny. Same thing happen to my 1000hp civic! LOL. Wasn't only the axle but the ring at the end of the axle was bad. So every time I stick it back in there. A few hundred of miles it would come off. The way to cure the ring is the squeeze it tight before putting it back to the tranny! Like it or not that little ring is what keeps the axle from coming out!
