5cm 14B Exhaust Housing????

Ok, so I am a little confused. I have a 14B that has a 5.369 cm exhaust housing. I thought all 14Bs has 6 cm exhaust housing

To make things worse, I have 2 s16Gs and both have 6 cm exhaust housings. I thought s16Gs had 7 cm exhaust housings.


Am I missing something? Is this where you measure size?

The measurement isn't of the inlet, it's a measurement of the total open area in the volute in square centimeters.

So, from a size standpoint the 14B measurement I have is correct?

My s16Gs opening is larger and I guess that is correct too?

Looks right. It's easy to tell by the casting numbers. The 14b will have 060 cast into it, and the 16g should have 070 cast into it.

6cm2 being a measurement of volume is far different than 6cm being a measurement of distance.

The do....or at least they did at one time, and someone stole them.

Another possibility is that you're measuring the 7cm2 housing wrong as the inlet diameter of a 7cm2 housing is 60mm, or 6cm.

Pretty sure the 14B is has the 6cm^2 housing.

My s16g's on the other hand confuse me. One has the 070 marking on the turbine housing and one does not. The one with the 070 has a much bigger opening on the O2 side vs the one that does not have the 070.

The odd ball one O2 side outlet has the same size opening as a 14B but the numbers are wrong for a 14B exhaust turbine. See photos. Exhaust turbine has numbers 78-11830. What the heck is that!

Inlet diameter on this odd ball is 5.93 cm.

I realize we are getting into the "ID this turbo" area....I will re-post there if I have over stepped the boundary of this thread.

11830 is the part number for a 7cm2 housing regardless of what size the inlet is.

But why would the outlet of the housing be the same size as a 14B exhaust housing outlet.

They use the same turbine wheel. Some housings have the outlet ported, and the evo 3 housings are cast that way.

Correct- cm3 is volume (volume existing within a cube) with cm2 being the area of a 2D object. Fingers were working faster than the brain that day.

Thanks guy, the reason I was confused is because one of my s16Gs has an EVO 3 exhaust housing and I thought that was "normal" for a 16G.....now I know.
