Alright just to start ive heard of this setup working WITHOUT a fuel tune by means of an afc or other fuel control management talking to people in the area they seem to believe that running 550cc injectors and a 2nd gen mas on a 1g will run fine without any type of tuning I am skeptical but it almost sounds logical seeing 20% more fuel is being supplied and from what ive looked up the 2nd gen mas flows 20% more air anyone have any experience with this setup or know someone who has and what kind of mods they used for their setup thanks

You will need some sort of fuel control. The 2g MAF is setup for 450's also

Chris

I have also heard that too. the second gen maf has a flow curve that requires corrections that negate the corrections the 550's require. but it still would pobably be good to get a burned eprom for 550's and 2gmaf.

anyone have any experience with it or have used it in the past? I have had previous experience tuning with an afc2 on my 2nd gen so it wouldnt be a big deal if i did need to get one and also so you would be able to run a 2nd gen maf without any fuel issues on the stock 450's? im not really intrested in buying a 3rd afc so the eprom chip does sound promising if i do end up going with 550s money is an issue right now so im looking for the most efficient solution but i still want to make sure i treat the car right ive already got the maf a wired up plug for my 1g and what else I need for it to work but im still looking for advice on which way to go with my fuel management mainly based on what experience people have had with using the 2nd gen maf

I know a couple local guys who have gone this route. It does work but the combo sometimes runs a little lean, especially on a hacked MAS. A buddy of mine was running 12.2 on a 2G mas, 550's, and a small 16g in his 90. My friends 94 also ran like this for a bit and it didn't have any negative consequences. Having some sort of fuel control would be ideal just because every car likes different things. Try it and watch your logger, if your car tolerates it without knocking then you're good, if not, save up for some kinda fuel control. :thumb:

My 90 AWD is currently running with a 2g mas and 550's at 37 psi of fuel pressure and a SAFC set near zero for hi and lo settings. Every car is different, but to answer your question, yes I think you could add 550's and a 2G mas without an afc. I wouldnt do it for ever, but if you want to try it I wouldnt be surprised if it worked pretty well. I think it would be a little frustrating to not have any fuel control, but I suspect your fuel trims will be able to compensate. You could turn the mas screw in or out and see what affect it would have on your fuel trims. As far as WOT, I would defiently have a logger handy to see what is going on.

Agreed with the fuel control, and I also agree that the 2G MAF is set up for 450's - but only on a 2G ECU. The 2G ECU is tuned for a 2G MAF to inject the right amount of fuel on 450's. The 1G ECU expects a 1G MAF, which reports more Hz for the same airflow than a 2G MAF.

If you put a 2G MAF on a 1G with 450's without fuel control, da engine goes boom.

I got this setup with 2g mass and 550's. they cancel each other out as far as fuel is concerned but the ecu is still seeing 20% less air and will run timing accordingly. Mine is way high at part throttle and even WOT. I am in the process of finding a eprom and a chip to compensate for this. Right now my timing is set at -5 btdc which seems to help bring the timing back some under part/wot conditions but is idles poorly and lower like 650. At 5+timing I would get 40plus counts of knock under any boost OMG . But know it is less than 10. Having no EGR agravates the problem at part TH too. Make sure if u got 255 to have AFPR, at less than 2500 rpm on tip in i get rich knock on stock. My AFPR is on backorder for a few days  .My highbid on ebay 4 eprom ecu was outbid at $355.To much 4 me so I guess I'll find another one. Anyone got one 4 91-94. U can read the thread I started on "knock under any load" , it might help. :thumb:

alright well im not gonna hack out the maf when running 550s and hopefully keep the car running a little more on the rich side to aleviate any expensive problems

I have the exact setup on my car right now (with 3" exhaust at 13psi) it runs rich. In the mornings on startup it runs ridiculously rich, in the Maine cold it chugs if it isnt warmed up. When it is warmed up however I have no problem with it except for the 13-15 mpg I get. I have an afc and b16g that is going in but just to tell you the 550s and 2gmaf will work but is dam rich.

thats fine if i have to keep it on the rich side for now im not completely cheap and that stupid to run without fuel management forever im just looking for a temp solution i have some past experienece with the afc on my 2nd gen but the eprom setup is quite tempting ive also got a walboro 255 otw im not familiar with the eprom although ive heard of it and the extreme benefits of having one ive only really started getting back into working on my dsm in the past month or so the custom burnt chips ive been hearing about seem quite tempting but financially wouldnt it be best to wait till ive completed my setup which is just going to be the norm 16g fmic blah blah nothing crazy im not asking about what setup to go with just a little info on the eprom i can figure the rest out myself

ty for all the help so far its been extremely useful
