50 trim, will this fmic work

I just bought this exact intercooler as a cheap replacement for my small greddy front mount. I have talked to quite a few guys and heard that the 7" tall core is actually quite nice. If you can find the 10" tall one, you might want to check that out too. Although this one requires no cutting and still fills just about any stock dsm bumper you can throw at it.

itll work, but sorta pricey IMO. + its gonna need long routing piping wich sorta is a bummer. You can pick up a much nicer core, setup for short route for just a little more. Keep an eye on the trader etc.

IMO,
Spearco core: 2-178; flows 710cfm and supports 500hp.
2.87"Wx7.8"Hx20"L.
$448.63, plus welding and piping, ($600 total) you'll have a perfect intercooler that you know will work for your 50 trim and fits better than some oversized "guess should work" intercooler.

You can get a 24x8x3.5 core, setup for short route piping for like 550$, + 150$ to make your own pipes, and have a much nicer setup tho. Straightlinespecialties.com sells the street core seperate from the kit.

whats the difference between th epipe legnths, and any recomendations for pipe sizes. i only wanna run 22psi at very tops so im not looking for killer boost. uts enough boost and isnt a little but its not like i wanna run 35psi.

yea but how much trimming is needed to run that thing. 12 inches high, i really dotn want it to hang below my bumper line and i dotn wanna have to trim a whole hell of a lot. i mean i could, but id rather not. kinda lazy

if i have to i will which im leaning more towards just doin it and getitn it over with kinda deal.

I run the same intercooler on my car. I went from a 12.8@105 to a 12.6@108 on pump gas. Noticeable lag difference but it has never heatsoaked on me. This is on a small 16g BTW.

more lag or less, more im assuming?

im new to this intercooler stuff

you have a dejon bumper, how was the install if you do.

and what do you mean by just leave the cover?

I dont have the dejon bumper. My intercooler is so big its physically impossible to install a bumper. My intercooler acts as one I bolted to the spots where the bumper fits onto the chassis.

I have to trim the hell out of my bumper cover as you can see.
Dont get bumper and bumper cover confused as the same thing they are not.
The bumper is the solid peice of metal that bolts to your chassis to protect your car in 5mph fender benders.

Just take the bumper off and put the cover back on, no hacking cutting of that sort and you can install it back later if you decide to go stock again. Save you some trouble. Of course its not legal but whos gives a damn. Just dont go around bumping into cars or your intercooler is gonna get mangled. :p

To save some the trouble (I get asked all the time) I got my intercooler from a friends 10sec turbocharged mustang. He cant remember what brand it was nor can I. All the logos were scratched out for some reason when he got it. I got it for a wopping $200 :)

The core is 12 tall x 30 wide x 4 thick. And beleive it or not lag is almost none existant with my GT12. And it has less pressure drop than my stock intercooler. It works phenominally in the summers here in phoenix.

so wait thet damn thign doesnt hold the body work in place. wtf holds it up.

if i woulda known that i woulda just got a big ass fmic to begin with

Man that cooler is huge what in the hell do you need an IC that big for? Holy crap thats big!

i guess i will throw my 2 cents in and say i used to have a 50 trim and now have a 60 -1 i love pte turbos, but make sure when you install it have a big enough fitting from the head to the turbo i blew 2 of them up b/c it wasn't getting enough oil. it wasn't my fault i didn't install it, but now i am going to do it my self just to make sure its done right this time. i use a greddy 24r (the bigger one) i love the look of it, and it's greddy sooo... you know its good!

I think ExtremePSi has their stuff together as far as intercoolers go:

I will make sure I comment on its performance once I get everything buttoned up.
