50 Trim or bigger?

Well i'm thinking about upgrading to a new BB 50 trim. I want to be around 450whp in the end. I'm going to be upgrading my cams and head. I just purchased Ron Shearers exhaust manifold and i'm going to get the external wastegate, new turbo, and o2 housing because my manifold cracked. What do you guys think? Is a 50 too big or should i go bigger?
 
That depends on pump or race gas as well as engine work. No one is going to say 450 whp is unattainable (especially on a FWD), but equally put no one will say it's easy, especially on pump. While there are people who do it, the majority will not see 450, especially on pump.

Therefore, my suggestion would be to go bigger if you want to attain 450 a bit easier race or pump. Some 60-1 variants will definitely get you there.
 
I'm not trying to steal your post, and this may be benificial for the original poster as well, but would a 60 trim with the right supporting mods reach that power level?
 
i usually use 94 octane which is what my car was tuned with so i'll probably und up sticking with that, mostly my goal is to destroy my 2 friends with srt4s:shhh: ...LOL
 
The flow map of a 60 trim will barely nick the 50 lbs/min airflow line, which will put you to your goal. However, the point of the question was to put you over the goal with a large margin to spare, and so I will stick with my recommendation of a 60-1 variant.
 
is there any specific supporting mods i'll have to do in order to use the 60-1? i'm talking about internals...i'm already planning on doing cams, springs, retainers...that kinda stuff. But my main concern is breaking something in the block. Also, what would you guys suggest for the .48 or .63 A/R Turbine Housing?
 
The A/R housing is honestly a matter of opinion. Faster spool, top end power. With a 60-1 though I'd go absolutely no lower than a .63 A/R. Then again your A/R's aren't really selectable if you go with a bolt-on variant which is what I was assuming you would do.

The 60-1 absolutely loves higher boost levels, which you'll need to go to if you're serious about 450 whp. In that case, I would say do the same mods as if you were preparing for any other high boost high powered engine (beefier internals, multi-layer headgasket or metal, etc).

If your goal is to beat an SRT-4 you might want to focus most of yourt money on planting power to the ground without too much trouble, SRT-4's are not that fast at all, just get in some good driving and a few mods and you should be able to hang with them easily.

:nono: :notgood: think about it, a turbo that hits faster vs a turbo that hits harder???? That theory is wrong, when a bigger turbo spools it hits harder and puts more power down causing traction problems not having it spool faster and hit weaker.

My car has K&N, 3"exhaust and MBC set to 15PSI and I beat them by a few car lengths...Granted I am AWD and pulling high 1.7 60'

I personally think the biggest problem for FWD isn't power but traction, I was recommending that he spend more money on traction than 400+FWHP cause that isn't going to be fun to drive.
 
I can hang with them around turns easily. I am upgrading traction, I got tein coilovers, front and rear strut bars, i'm thinking about new sway bars. The main goal is pulling them. As of now, I pull the hell outta them in 4th right before 5th. They accel. faster probably because i have a 2.0L vs their 2.4L + not to mention the slight lag i have over their stock turbo that practically spools during idle.
 
yeah i'm pretty sure it's low end power(faster spool) that is going to give you traction problems more than top end power(slower spool). the laggier turbo is probably better for FWD, as far as traction goes...although if you put down huge numbers it would be a problem anyway you look at it.
 
SRT-4's have LSD's since (I think) '04. I didn't see a LSD in your profile. Do you have one? If not, that may be a better place to start, especially if you are already pulling them in the upper gears.
 
Yea, an LSD is definately in my upgrade path somewhere along the road. I just wish I would have done that when I got my new clutch and flywheel. :thumb:
