So recently I past emissions with my winter beater 91 Laser RS and I was only getting around 200 miles per tank (I know its shitty gas milage). So since I will be parting it out as soon as it warms up around here and it won't be seeing another emissions test, I decided to cut the catalytic converter right off and leave it as is and run open DP. Now I get around 250-265 miles per tank! Am I retarded or is this really happening?

90 TSI here, 200-235 on a full tank in the city. Highway I get almost two times that but I've never driven on the highway more than 200 miles. Was nice to not even see it at 1/2 a tank at 200 miles. Then I hit the city and it was all downhill from there :(

Haha yea i think there was lack of porting, lack of intake, and i must of had a boost leak or faulty wastegate or somthing, but that thing wouldn't make anything till the needle was damn near 4000 LOL. Heck I was messing around with Dream On on the highway back from the DSM Shootout and got whooped bad. His car stock my car full 3in exhaust, 16g, wires, some hard intercooler piping, quite embarrasing :-(.

LOL, its great that you can admit to getting stomped on. :thumb:

Did you fix the problem? I have no porting and an evo 3 manifold (larger ports improve flow with the secrefice of spool). And i get fool boost at 3100 rpms... I think you ahve a boost leak. I hope you've fixed it. It must truely suck to wait that long for boost and get only what a 16g can deliver (not that a 16g isn't potent; just that much lag merits a he!! of a hit up top).

Yeah, I'ma have to say having a FWD has it's benefits. Out of curiosity, what size of cat were you running when you saw the increase and was it stock?
