So recently I past emissions with my winter beater 91 Laser RS and I was only getting around 200 miles per tank (I know its shitty gas milage). So since I will be parting it out as soon as it warms up around here and it won't be seeing another emissions test, I decided to cut the catalytic converter right off and leave it as is and run open DP. Now I get around 250-265 miles per tank! Am I retarded or is this really happening?

I added 50 miles to my commute on a tankful of gas recently....

....that's after I switched to an Acura RSX for a daily driver.

I literally get 300 miles to a full tank in it compared to 220-250 per tank on the GSX. I always reset the odometer when I fill the tank and I get 16-17 mpg on the Eclipse, 25-28mpg on the RSX. In addition, I do not need to run crappy 91 octane in the Acura.

Yeah I just think its amazing that I can get so many more miles just by chopping off the exhaust. I get around 275-325 miles per tank in my Talon (possibly 350 if I drive like a grandma) if I remember correctly since its put up for the winter. I always reset the odometer every time i fill up.

98% stock 92 AWD and 25 mpg like clockwork on my daily drive which is mostly highway. All highway is usually 27-28 at 75-80mph. I have gotten as high as 35mpg but that was at a max of 55mph for almost an entire tank. Faster than 75-80 and the mileage really drops off fast.

I'd expect it was a clogged cat as well. A free flowing cat shouldn't effect mileage much, but if it's clogged your engine will have to work quite a bit harder just to get you around, thus much lower mileage.

I was getting 14-15 city and 18-20 highway (200-220 per tank usually). After readjusting my timing it's gone up several miles per gallon. Something like 21 combined or 260 per tank. I'm hoping some future modifications will bring it up to mid-twenties.

I guess my lousy 420A actually has ONE benefitOMG ... I drive like 50 miles to work each day, about 95% highway, and I usually do around 60-65... If I don't beat on my car too bad I can get upwards of 375 miles to a tank. My best was about 425 miles, I'm not sure as to exactly what that is for mileage but it definately sounds better than 200-220 miles per tank LOL! I have an 83 camaro that I've rebuilt pretty well that still doesn't even get 150 miles per tank when I drive it good, and its got a 16 gallon tank!:notgood: The sacrifices we make for horsepower...

I get LESS then 90 miles to a FULL tank.bad.

OMG WTF Is it 90 miles of full boost? If not I think something is seriously wrong! I don't know what you mean by 'full' tank, but assuming it's about 13 gallons then you are getting less than 7 mpg. Time to check for gaping holes in that gas tank...:p

Ya I spend like $100+ dollars a week in gas haha, I need to get the car finished up and get it tuned, Rather then driving it the way it is. Actually, I took it to the garage last nite so when it comes back out it is going on a dyno for tuning =) 90 miles was on a good day. I hate listening to people complain about gas prices, I just laugh in their face at it...

What is everyone's problem?... I got 33 mpg on my last tank and I'm looking at 30+ mpg with this tank now... Look at my mod list: cams, 650s, walbro 255, 18g. Nothing gets us bad gas milage like our own lead foots... Thats why some of us (as previously posted) have switched to slower cars:D .

Back to the original post. Improving flow in alomst all cases increases milage (i.e. header manufacturers mention milage increase when advertising). So losing the cat/exhaust which most certainly increases flow should improve milage. Also, it may be too loud to get on it as much as before the exhaust was removed.

I would love to find a 1g N/T dsm. My cousin had a 94 Talon ES 5 spd and damn that thing would go forever on a tank of gas. Even after we made it stock turbocharged. The only thing stock N/T was the tranny. So apparently the manual tranny has some nice shifting points...idk not much of a transmission expert.

BTW ever since i have had my car i get about 21-25 mpg. Sometimes ethanol 91 and sometimes Wal Marts 93. So who knows. Its auto and I like to spool the turbo all the time....yea I ###### shouldnt do that, but i mostly drive highway so when i get in town i cant control myself. Ill try and baby it around a bit and see what i cant get.

500 miles to the tank, Hahahahhaha! I guess you have to sacrifice though. I'd stick with a turbo car any day. Gas prices never bothered me, But that is probably because i've paid $9 a gallon for 118 octane already and laugh when people complain about 2$ gas prices.

You need to retune for E85. We got 105 octane at 2.16 a gallon.

Exactly how do you do that? I have been reading about E85 and the governments push to get more market penetration of sugar alcohol fuel (E85). It's generally .$50 cheaper a gallon and supposedly much better for an engine and its replenishable. Some newer vehicles are already set up to run on the stuff on the fly and from what I have read with a little tuning any gasoline car can run on it.

There are even sites that tell you how to distill your own as long as you get a permit from the ATF for private fuel distilling.

90 Miles to a full tank??
Jeez, my slightly modded FWD gets at LEAST 350 miles to ~15 gallons of gas, and my old AWD that was modded with bigger fuel/exh/ic system etc got at least 300 miles to the same amount of gas.
I don't understand how some of you guys get such shit mileage, I drive the car hard too, cruise at 75mph mostly sometimes 65 when its busier, and I see full boost multiple times every day.

Haha yea i think there was lack of porting, lack of intake, and i must of had a boost leak or faulty wastegate or somthing, but that thing wouldn't make anything till the needle was damn near 4000 LOL. Heck I was messing around with Dream On on the highway back from the DSM Shootout and got whooped bad. His car stock my car full 3in exhaust, 16g, wires, some hard intercooler piping, quite embarrasing :-(.
