4G64 TURBO help!!

Hey guys,

i have a 1999 spyder 2.4L 4G64. i read a bunch of threads about 4g64 trubo and i have been told in this forum that if i want to turbo my car i can just use the 2g gst or gsx Basically exhaust manifold, injectors, oilpan, turbo, bov, intake, just transfer the turbo system from a gst to my spyder as a bolt on. All i want is the basic 8 PSI setup just for the blow off valve and make it a little faster thats all. I been trying to get all GST parts used and a good turbo to complete my system but do i need to replace my pistons? will my pistons be ok with only 8 psi? if anybody here that has a turbo dsm could spend 3 mins telling me the gst parts i need to get to make my spyder a turbo i would really appreciate it because i see turbo dsms in my area all the time and they are sick.

Thats like a HP question, you will get different answers every time.

FYI You can slap a 4g63 (1g or 2G) head on your car, but you will need to have a machine shop plug some oil drain holes.
 
i have been buying all of my parts off of ebay all 4g63 parts and i have the same car as you.
heres a list of parts you need.
4G63T Exhaust Manifold (Ported 2g Preferred)
4G63T O2 Sensor Housing (Ported 2g Preferred)
4G63T Downpipe - 2G FWD (aftermarket or custom 2.5" - 3" preferred)
A Turbo (duh!) - 14b, Small 16G, or other. Avoid the stock 2G T25! (16G variant (small, big, EVOIII) preferred)
High-Flow air filter & MAS Adaptor
Intake Pipe from MAS to Turbo (stock 2G OK, aftermarket better)
Intercooler - Stock 2G SMIC OK, FMIC better.
Intercooler Piping from turbo to intercooler & intercooler to throttle body (custom connector needed for stock throttle body connection).
Blow off valve (BOV) - 1G is fine (i purchased a ebay knock off)
Boost Gauge
Gauge Mounting (A-Pillar and/or Gauge cluster bezel trim or other)
Gasket: Head to Exhaust Manifold
Gasket: Turbo to Exhaust Manifold
Gasket: O2 Housing to Turbo
Gasket: O2 Housing to downpipe
Spark Plugs: NGK BKR7E (NGK's part number 4644) <-these are 2 heat ranges cooler
Misc Nuts, Bolts, Washers, hose clamps, etc.
Turbo oil Supply Line (Stainless braided preferred)
Turbo oil return Line from a stock 2G setup
2G turbo oil pan (or somehow mount the turbo oil return on your stock oil pan)
Turbo water lines (feed & return) + rubber coolant hose to connect to engine.
Higher flow Fuel Pump (walbro 255)
Bigger Injectors (RC 550 hi-impedence)
Apex-i S-AFC
OBD-II Datalogger
 
To answer your other question, no your pistons do no limit you. Having those pistons in there only means that you are limited to how much boost you can run since the high compression is more prone to knock, but the positive is that because you have higher compression you will make more power than if you had the lower compression pistons. Lastly you can't use 4g63t pistons you have to get 4g64 pistons. By the way, stay away from AFC's.
 
Get yourself at minimum a turbo ecu, afc, datalogger and a wideband o2. You will need to fab up a lower radiator hose depending on how you route your intake pipe. Also something to worry about is the thermostat outlet. It points right into the intake pipe so you need to find someway to point the outlet down or do what i did and modify a adjustable swivel chevy thermostat housing to work on the car.
