Cruising along and suddenly, there was no power steering, the car continued to run fine otherwise. I pulled over and immediately noticed the pulley had come off due to the nut coming off. What the heck could have caused this and any info on the specs of that nut appreciated to be able to get another. 99 Eclipse GS Thank you -Rick

The threads look damaged to me. You may need to re-thread it or replace the shaft.

Not only the threads but the splines on the pulley are definitely damaged. It will need to be replaced.

Yes there are a lot of metal shavings. Did the pump seize or bind? Check fluid level and condition.

Thank you for the replies. I was leaning toward pump replacement but was hoping otherwise. Suggested replacement brands if not new OEM (if even available)?

I'm not versed in the 420A, but you can usually find reman PS pumps at RockAuto or your favorite parts store. Hang on to your old unit in case you need some components off it before returning it as a core. Sometimes those reman units are missing some key things that you need to swap.

It will likely be a Cardone reman unit. I got one and it has worked well, but did come without an oring that is needed on the pressure line connection, so I agree with the advice to hold on to yours until everything is confirmed ok.
Looks lucky you did not have an instant belt-throwing festival, with attendant collateral damage.
