So after discovering I need to replace the piston rings a few weeks ago I decided it's a fine time to build this car into what I really want. BULLETPROOF is always my goal in the cars I build, first and foremost. Now, with that said, I started collecting parts to build a 7-bolt 2.3L stroker because everyone says how its the most popular (a 2.3L) and the ease is unmatched. So this was my first choice in a 600hp+ engine.

I am also a sucker for displacement. And a BC 2.6L build sounds very tempting. Will this be as strong as the 2.3L? It is my summer time toy with the occasional track time running an auto trans. (Note: My question is about the engine, not the drivetrain).
I'm looking for answers from people with direct experience with a high hp 4g64 block/4g63 head setup. Thanks :D

The 4g64 is a greate engine, i havent had anny problems with it ( not like my 63), I think the stroked 2.6 is a little too extreme, and to build it properly your gonna spend atleast 10k in parts for the engine+ the "stronger" transsmision and drive line parts (axles, cluch, drive shaft , eyc.) + the time its gonna take you or labor + things that you didnt expect, I would be more than happy with a 64/63 hybrid and a big turbo :)

I agree that 2.6L and reliable don't seem to go hand in hand simply because it's very uncommon. But the only way something can be perfected is by people continuing to try new things. Be sure to pay close attention to your rod angle and your bearings when doing this.

Take your time, and I'm sure you'll end with an awesome engine.

The 2.6 kit will wear the cylinder walls and egg shape them faster due to excessive side loading.

We run a 2.4LR in one of our shop Evo's. The car made 748whp on a Modified FP black. That setup was ran for about 2 years and racked up nearly 40k miles of beating the ever living shit out of it. We put a different turbo on it and made 815whp. Car lives on E-85 so the tune is on kill mode everyday at 40psi

We pulled the engine apart for a refresh as it was starting to smoke a little and found a scratch in the cylinder wall but other than that everything else looked perfect.

That setup was using custom Wiseco 1400hd's at 10.5:1 and GSC 156mm I- beam Rods.

The new setup will be 11.8:1 for this year on a set of R&R steel I-Beam rods.

The 2.4 can make rediculous power and torque. The biggest issue is Headgaskets. So far we have had good luck with the Cosworth 87mm headgasket. Copper gaskets work well also.

To answer the OP in the best possible way, Yes the 2.4 is a good choice and can make great power.

The only thing I've heard about a 2.6 build was that it kept blowing head gaskets and overheated easily. I can't remember how much he bored the cylinders though so he may have pushed it alittle far and that's what was making it prone to overheating. If you go 2.6 I would think you should be ok if you o-ring the block though.

Been I while since I checked back. I've been working that OT!!! Now that my budgets been shot out the window. If all goes well I'll have the 4G64 block soon, sending out the 63 head to get angled and over sized. Still have to pull out the old engine and basically strip the car. But for the time being I'm working every chance I get. Let's hope my DD stays reliable, nobody has time for that... This is a poor man building a Ferrari here, it's gonna take a lil time :D

Can anyone here help a rookie out? I want to to my 1g head on a 4g64 block for a car I race in Cumpcar if you dont know what Chumpcar is you should check it out lots of fun. anyway My question is about which cars to look for as a donor for the block. I have read in a few places that the motor comes in eclipses and galants fron the late 90's to 03 i think and the chrysler sebring and a dodge shitbox from 01 to 05 with a Dohc instead of a SOHC like the eclipse and galant. can anyone here confirm this and if so will my 4g63 transmission bolt up to the motor in the crysler.

From the research I've done, to my understanding there are 6bolt 2.4L blocks and 7bolt 2.4L blocks. The 7bolt is deemed a 4G64, the 6bolt is something else. The 6bolt versions seem to be rare. Definitely read as much as you can off other threads. There's a lot to learn before you get started making a hybrid. I've been reading posts for weeks now and still feel very stupid, LOL

Best of luck man!
