So i am going to finally post my build so i can keep track of it my self. So far i have the rebuild on back order and i am currently stripping the block to nothing and getting everything ready to just drop in. No so far i have everything off the block including oil pump cranks head turbo and lines. Pistons are coming out now and then ill pull crank. I am trying to get rid of all my working parts that are coming off to make some extra cash to help purchase the rebuild. As i go i will post Before and after pictures of everything i clean up. I did how ever notice that the oil pump was busted at the top and needs to be replaced and when i pulled cylinder 4 the #2 ring was cracked in half and came off in 3 pieces. After i get everything cleaned up ill have a new car with 0 miles on the motor but 160k on the block. We shall see where we go from here. Right now i am putting the over sized pistons in and depending on if i spun a bearing or not standard bearings but if i spun one then im going over sized. Please feel free to post comments or suggestions as we go along. Now keep in mind this is my first build for any car.:thumb::thumb::hellyeah::hellyeah::shhh:

Are you planning on going oversized pisons? How do the cylinder walls look? What about a ridge at the top of the cylinder? Maybe it wouldnt hurt to take it to a machine shop and get the block decked and honed, and of course if your going oversized bored. And throw in some new freeze plugs in while your at it.. Last thing you want is to get the motor in and ready for the first start up and BAM!! there goes a freeze plug.. NOT FUN. haha ;) Also you might want to post this in a blog, mods are trying to get us to post build ups in the blogs. Just a thought. Good luck with the build up!

ok so i measured the cylinder walls they are still 100% to spec at 3.35 or 85mm. So i am going to go with standard pistons but .o10 sized rings and shave them down for a tight fit into the cylinder walls. The walls were inspected and no wear damage and the ridge is still there. So i am pretty much going all standard except for the rings i am going up to a .010.

Ok, I'm not an expert, but I think you have a few things confused. There isn't supposed to be a ridge at the top of the cylinder; it should be uniform straight through. Also, you at the very least need to hone the cylinder so the rings seat properly; it doesn't sound like you are planning to do that? If the bore is 100% factory spec like you say it is, then there won't be any need for oversize rings because you will just shave them down to regular size when gapping them.

The top of the cylinder might be in spec, but what about the bottom? You really need a cylinder mic to measure that.

By the looks of it, you better at least take the block to get inspected, and that goes for the crank too with a 160k there is more than likely a lot of wear and tear on the walls, if you dont you BETTER at least get it honed, or the rings will never seal. Get regular sized rings too, most rebuild kits come with pregapped rings anyways, try to fit a 2" ring in a 1" hole, do you think that 1" hole will have a perfect seal on the part where the ring touches the hole?

Sorry about my vague post. Yes i am going to hone. And thanks for the info on the rings. There is no ridge on the cylinder just on the piston them self. It never came in contact with the walls the rings were just starting to wear out. I had the block checked for over wear or cracks and such and its still 100%. Now i am going to pull the crank once the rebuild gets here to have it inspected when i have my valves done. But like i said as far as the honing goes i am doing it to remove the glaze for a tight seal. And i did MIC my cylinders and they are still 100% in spec top to bottom no oval or other abnormalities. The walls do have some slight wear at the bottom from leaking rings and burning oil. Nothing that a hone wont fix. I am how ever going to replace EVERYTHING the kit comes with from bearings to lifters. I should be getting the kit this coming Wednesday to Friday. From there i will post pictures and keep it up to date.

Please keep the comments coming. I want to hear more i can do while i have it stripped. I have been reading the manual everyday before i touch something i do some research on it.
