Anyone have done this ?
Change intake from turbo engine to n/t engine ?

Anyone ran dyno of how much gain and in what rpm area ?

yea a lot of people have put turbo cams in their non turbo, its a cheap, easy way for hp, as far as how much power you will get, maybe 5-7hp, somebody correct me if im wrong.

yea I'd be happy with 5hp from both cams. If you got more mods then gains will be bigger. A good chip that can take advantage of better cams would be good mod here too.

I'm about to do it, my cams are supposed to show tomorrow, May 8th '04. :thumb:

I wouldn't so much expect a HP gain from T cams as I would a better revving motor. The lift of the turbo cams from the model years 93-94 is the harshest...but it isn't much more than an NT cam of the same year. Infact the service limit allows the lifts to overrun each other before you have to replace the cam. So the performance gain isn't seen from a harsher grind with a bigger lift...which is what would net you more HP. The gain is seen from the duration of the cams....much longer duration on the T cams than there is on the NT cams. I think I saw this analogy on another board somewhere so credit that guy for coming up with it but look at it like this...the T cams have more of a U shape and the NT cams have more of a V shape. That is a drastic analogy but you get the picture. So when you install the cams don't expect more HP, expect a better state of tune and a much better reving engine in the top end. You know how our NT engines seem to hit a slump right around 5500-6500 RPM? That is because of the duration of our intake and exhaust stroke is much shorter than it is on the turbo models. With the turbo cams installed...that slump will disappear and the engine will keep on pullin on up till 7 grand. :thumb: :dsm:

from what i understand the duration was the same for turbo non turbo and it was the lift that was different. possibly a slightly longer duration. i have heard that the turbo cams from 95+ were of the same lift yet a definately longer duration. supergoat has a review of these cams and there have been countless discussions on this subject both here and on DSMtalk.

4g63 T sport cams rollers will fit in my non turbo eclipse 1993? if so what effect i can hope? thanks

I have both turbo cams in my car and i do agree that the small slump went away between 5-65 but my car definatly does not rev freely to 7. It just struggles to get up there. My car is running great and i have supporting mods. full 3" intake with open K&N, pacesetter header with 2.5 open exhaust (no cat) and open muffler. I also have an UDP. My car definatly doesnt want to rev past 6500 very easily. Either there is something wrong with my car or what? All i know is that my brothers Tsi doesnt want to rev past 6 very easily and also my friends GSX doesnt wanna rev past 6 easy either. All three cars are 1st gens. Idk you tell me? I think i got a better power band but definatly not free reving to 7.

i had thought about putting 4g63t cams in my 4g63 . where does the power band start on a 4g63? i also have another question do the 4g63 motors run off of 3 cyl. till the power band then the performance cyl. kicks in? just wondering can any body help me ? thanks

/\ /\ /\ /\ /\

wow...that was kinda a funny question....a performance cylinder

LOL yeah i was wrong. has any body ever put an turbo intake cam on a 90 laser? my power band now is from 3,800-6,200 after that it just sucks. i have a k&n, hacked air can, blocked EGR, gutted cat and stright piped from the cat back. so i dunno if it will help me out or not. does any body know of any free mods? :laser:

Glad you took it in stride. :) The intake cam does move your powerband around a bit. However, we just can't get enough air into our engines to get much power after about 6000 rpms. As for free mods, you sound like you've got the ones done that are worth doing. Don't touch the honeycombs in the MASS. That'll just lean you out, and you don't need or want that. Also, you might want to build a little heat shield around your intake and pull out that little jug under where the snorkel for the intake used to be. That'll get some cooler air into your engine since you'll be keeping engine heat out. Also, when your radiator fan blows, the air flows towards your air filter. Aside from that, there really aren't any other worthwhile free mods that you could do.

Hope this helps,
Good luck
