hey am new to the DSM game am use to Hondas but I want to start a DSM Project and I know a lil about them.Whats my biggest ? right now is how much HP/PSI can a 6 Bolt Block handle with CP Pistons and Eagle Rods with stock Crankshaft with a semi built Head? Thanks

No bench racing allowed. What are the limits of the rods and pistons??? I know the rods can support up to 700hp. Please use proper spelling and grammar too.

well it would have low compression pistons...and sorry thats the way I talk on aim but just trying to found out how much can the block handle with aftermarket pistons and rods?

Anyway their good for around 650hp+. You have more important things to learn before you will get to 600hp. Read read and then do some more reading. This site has everything you will need to know. Welcome to the site DSMcrazyrican88.

Dont try to plan out your setup yet. You might find that you want high compression pistons. Dont buy anything until you research the pros and cons of high comp vs low comp. Searching for information will most likely answer any questions you might have. Goodluck :thumb:

well right now I have a 1993 Honda Civic Hatch with a built GSR Boosted and it moves but AWD is the way to go and plus 1G DSM's are sexxy LOL

No seriously, you have to watch your grammar. Read the sites rules. Is better if a member tells you than to get a warning from a moderator.

Another thing what type of head gasket do you have. You cant reach 650HP on a felpro head gasket! Fel-pro is for stock blocks.

I dont have a dsm yet.I mite be getting one next month but I want to learn about the block and what it can handle.I just want to learn about dsm befor I start messing with them and mess up my setup

The block can handle what ever you can throw at it with the respective supporting mods. Unlike Honda engines, there is no need for a "cylinder brace" sleeve or whever it's called that goes into it's cooling chamber around the cylinder walls. Solid iron block and steel crank. Just about everone uses the stock crank unless they go stroker (100mm Eagle crank). The rest is based on the what the rods can handle and how well your tune is to prevent piston destroying detonation.

Search is your friend so please use it. You can find all of the stuff you asked on the site already.

I'd go with the low compression pistons. Running lower compression pistons will allow you to run more boost without detonation. Youll see many boosted race cars running compression ratios as low as 5:1. Science also shows that lower compression+more boost=more airflow throughout the cylinder

Don't bump, please. It ain't this kind of forum, and again, watch the grammar and read the forum rules. It ain't to be mean, we just like to have clean and readable posts.

And 1g6boltAWDkilla, where does your authority suddenly comes from, you have 46 posts compare to liquidX who has 3,000+ posts, he may not be a mod, but if I had to put my money on it, he has more authority than you do, and at least he goes by the established rules, so please, get over yourself.

Lastly, OP, parts usually have an HP rating, just go step by step, read the upgrade path, and you'll be fine. As for the parts you listed, they all have a rating over 600hp, so you'd be good with those, besides that our block can handle it no prob, just have to think about things like different gaskets, BS delete (don't have to be better safe than sorry) etc. Just read and if you really can't find your answer reading and searching than ask. I'm sure you can understand.

8.3:1 is usually a good compression for ~600hp, lower is better but not too low as it won't power low enough in the RPM's and is not practical if you plan on keeping it streetable; if that's your goal, which we are still unaware of LOL. Planning on dd'ing the thing, making a drag machine or what?

I want a track car something that can do a 1/4 mile in 10 seconds 1 day...but right now I just want to learn the motor

Do you have a good source of income? I hope so; besides that, tuning and seat time is what will get you into 10's, besides that read our upgrade path... Are you looking to build a 1g or a 2g? I'm guessing 1g as you're talking about a 6-bolt?

Here's another good source of basic info:
