Hey all, so ive been scouring the site trying to find if there are major differences between the turbo and non-turbo versions of the 4g63. The reason I'm looking is that from what i'm seeing I believe i spun a rod bearing, and will be looking for a rebuild solution in the near future (September-ish). Not sure if i'm searching for the wrong thing, or just using the wrong keywords :/
I've heard that some people have picked up a 6 bolt non-turbo motor, and simply attach the turbo set up they have, and keep the ECU from their turbo, and use a different harness? Is there any weight to this? I only ask because for a 6 bolt long block NT is like 4-500$, and a turbo 6 bolt long block is like $1200-1500. So that's a major price difference.
I am also trying to piece together some better internals, and ive read the threads that include the Eagle rods and APR studs, and others have said there is a package deal for pistons and rods, I know that i'm going to be doing the Cosmetic HG, and probably Gates timing belt and new water pump while i have it all torn apart (although with a longblock being delivered, kinda seems dumb to tear it all apart again to change things). I guess my concern is, how difficult is it to rebuild the motor? I have confidence in my skills mechanically, but i've never delved into doing a full motor tear-down before, and just trying to get a feel for what I may be in store for.
And lastly, does anyone know of a good source to find a 6 bolt long block? the junkyards in my area (which are an hour away at best) only have the N/T motors, and they aren't in the best shape, anyone know of anywhere I can get one used, but within a decent price range that they have used before?
Thanks!

. I figured the injectors, pistons, and rings would at least be different due the compression the engine has to make and hold. Thanks for the heads up
