4g63 manual trans in a 4g64 spyder?

I tried searching and couldn't find a definitive answer. Will a 5 speed trans from a gst be a direct replacement for my car? My spyder has the 4g64 engine. If not, what is a recommended rebuild kit? The only one I found is on eBay, but I generally don't trust eBay parts (I am referring to the parts that are only sold on eBay, not quality parts that happen to be listed there...)

If it isn't a direct replacement, will it work and just have different ratios or some other difference that doesn't keep it from working. I'm able to, but not really interested in fabricating or dealing with wiring issues

If its out of a 2g it will fit but needs the 4g63 c-v axles. If its from a 1g it can fit with a ton of fabrication. The 4g63 has a lower gear ratio than the 4g64 trans. But it is stronger.

On a side note, was the awd swap worth it? I've been watching for a wrecked gsx to do that to mine (well, watching for the past two weeks because I've only had the car that long).

I do not know the ratios. Also you may need the flywheel I can not rember off hand if they are the same or not.

The swap for me is well worth it. I had a 90 gsx in the drive that need to be put back together had most of the parts to do it. When I came across the spyder for $300 (with bad auto trans) my wife convinced me to keep it I told her the only way I was going to keep it was if I did an AWD swap. So the 90 got scrapped.

So you can awd swap using 1g parts? That would make my search a lot easier (and cheaper)

No 1g parts are a no go while it could be done it will cost much much more in fabrication. None of the 1g drive train bolts into a 2g. Except the engine.

There are two types of trannies for the 4G63 setup: The F5M22 was for the NT motor and the F5M33 for the FWD turbo. The F5M22 final ratio hit around 4.32:1 and the F5M33 had a final ratio of 4.15:1

Why the "5M22" has the higher numbers (4.32:1) due to the small 4G37, so this was geared lower to aid this underpowered motor pull the more heavier 2550lb chassis of the DSM. But, this same tranny also worked well with the NT 4G63.

Turbo didn't need the lower gearing, thus, the "5M33" got the 4.15:1 since the motor was powerful enough to handle the chassis weight and the added power.

Thus, it could be possible that your Spyder has the 4.32:1 ratio or even lower (how to find out the final ratio...the hard way..is to jack up one tire, put a mark on the tire at the 12:00 position, put the tranny in 5th gear, and manually turn the crank pulley and count the revolutions of the pulley until that mark on the tire comes back to the original starting position) why the 4KRPM at 70mph.

Thanks! I think I misinterpreted the information the first time. It sounds like a turbo trans will be perfect for me. I was originally thinking lower meant higher rpms for a given speed. Right now 70mph is about 3k rpm, so a turbo tranny should drop that somewhat which is what I prefer. Thanks a lot for all the help guys.
