Halifax,
alright, for a while i always wanted to swap my 420a engine for a 4g63t engine, but i didn't want to screw with it if it asn't broken.... until last week when i was going down the highway at about 4 grand and 150k/m and the engine light turned on so i pulled over and there was a whole lotta metal on metal contact that i could hear so i got it towed to a dodge dealership and it skipped a tooth on the timing belt, so now iv'e found a new engine and i was ready to order it but they said it mite not fit into the engine bay of my 1995 eagle talon esi, so now the mechanic is pondering about it and is not sure

now i would like your guys opinion on my situation and i was wondering if it was at all possible and if it would take alot of time/money to do this now

please answer!!!!

Well first you need a new wiring harness...new ecu...and everything for the 4g63 is on the opposite side of the engine bay tranny is mounted different battery...and other misc stuff...honestly it is going to be more of a pain in the ass to do it then it is worth...You are better off just purchasing a car with a 4g63 in it if that is what you want instead of putting a 4g63 into your nt eclipse. Just letting you know. And yes the 4g63 will fit into your engine bay to answer your regular question.

It won't fit without a lot of work. The main problem is that the 420a is backwards from the 4g63t. The tranny and other parts are mounted on the opposite side that the 4g63t is. Anything is possible, but I don't know exactly what would need to be done to make it work.

Edit: dang he beat me to it ^

:D i'm special!!! HAHA

Let's see...

You will need the 4g63 engine bay wiring harness

4G63 ECU

4G63 engine, and tran's

custom made 420a-4G63 engine/trans mount's

misilanious plumping, and hardware

Let's just say the amount of time, and money would not make the ends justify the mean's.

A GSX can be had for 8k( well modded) and less. You will EASILY spend more then this in trying to do the swap.

If you want a 4g63 buy a car that came with one. Unless you are a wiz and can fabricate it's going to cost around $10,000 and you will be disappointed. No offense, but if you would have searched you could have found this out very easily. You are by not the first one to consider this swap, or the last to change their mind.

The only car I have ever seen that was converted used the whole front clip from a gsx. But it was also a $30,000 sponsored race car.

ya, i believe you guys and i seen the spray, but ireally want a turboed engine and my friends will do it for free and they are mechanics so thats a plus and my other friend will tune the turbo, and it comes wth everything i need on this site that im gunna order, and also my grandfather can fabricate it,... so this is why i kinda wanted to try the swap and thats why im still asking you guys,.....now with all this said, would you now atleast attempt or put this engine in with all of the resources and i also have the entire winter to install it, so could you guys tell me your opinion now,..
(also a turbo for a 420a are $4500 and + i need to fix my entire engine)

thank you

if your doing that much work i would just put a EVO viii motor in there

My dad always wanted to do this to his Eclipse RS. The EVO motor is going the same direction as the 420a but does that really reduce the difficulty any? You still need the custom engine mounts, EVO ecu, etc. Also is there a fwd tranny that will fit the EVO motor? If you're going to do a motor swap you might as well do a wicked BA one.

:beatentodeath:

People have turbo'd their 420a for around $1000, and kits can be had between $2-$3000, depending on quality of parts and completeness. If you intend on keeping your current vehicle, you should look into adding to the 420a you already have.

No offence here, but if you have to ask these questions, a Mitsubishi motor swap is likely out of your realm. If you were to try this swap, you'd have invested well over the cost of a factory turbo car in your 2gnt for a vehicle with a factory turbo-car motor, with factory turbo-car power. You'd still be FWD, and you'd have a hacked up electrical system.

Work with the platform you have, or sell it for a factory turbo car.

i would leep my 420a..but the timing belt skipped teeth and there for my engine is screwed and you can tell that pretty well everything needs to be replaced, soooo.........

i would buy a replacement 420a from a junkyard for 400-500 bucks tops! you and your buddies throw it in overnight and drive your car until you can buy a turbo kit. A friend of mine had a 99 gs. he went thru motors like gas. were all soso mechanics and honestly its just more time consuming than anything.

As far as a turbo kit. find a member who made his own. ask em about things to look out for.
