4g63 cam gears vs 4g64 cam gears ?

Yes i searched till my head hurt. I just bought a 98 gsx with a 4g64 7 bolt bottom end and was wondering what is the difference in the cam gears, how much in degrees and if they are advanced or retarded. as of now the car has a rough idle and all the timing marks line up so i'm just trying to see if the car has the correct valve timing and gears. Thank You !

Assuming the previous owner DID not use aftermarket cam gears and used OEM 2.4L cam gears on the 2g or 1g head, then the timing if done properly as in any 2.0L should be fine. To my knowledge as long as the OEM 2.4L cam gears are used the timing marks on cam gears and the crank sprocket line up perfect. However, if you have aftermarket cam gears then the timing marks would be "off." Unless, the previous owner adjusted the timing by remarking the aftermarket cam gears. I don't think anyone makes aftermarket cam gears for the 4g64 yet? Someone correct me if I am wrong. Hope the latter helps somewhat, good luck!

They are stock gears but don't know if they are 4g63 or 4g64 gears ? i was just wondering the difference in degrees also if i do buy adjustable 4g63 gears.

Ok if you go to Welcome To Extreme PSI and scroll to Mitsubishi Eclipse on the left side of the screen and then proceed to the "timing belt components" you will find nice pictures of what OEM 2.4L cam gears should look like. Furthermore, each aftermarket 4g63 cam gear might require different re-marking on the gears, I don't know since I have never installed aftermarket cam gears of any type or on any car. However, I did find this nice write up that should guide you in the right direction, which includes nice pictures as well.

Thank you now i can check to see if my gears have those marks. also i could not find the diagram on Welcome To Extreme PSI
