Ok, turns out when I went to look at the laser, It has the lowly 4G37. I am not currently in the market of doing a swap, but what can I do to the 1.8 to make it better? Are there any major restrictions? Now with 135k I am weary about the timing belt so I am going to replace that as soon as I get the car. Also the car has oil drizzling out by the cam, what is the problem?

idk as far as performance wise for the 1.8... there isnt a whole lot you can do. get a different intake and a cat-back exhaust are the most basic things to start out with. its a good beginner DSM for you to get your feet wet.
2. as far as the leak...if its comming out from under the cam on the valve cover it could be a valve cover gasket. the parts are about $20 from NAPA or checker..and takes maybee about half an hour to replace if you know what your doing. or post some pics so others can see the leak if that is not where it is comming from. good luck man :thumb:

^^beat me to it
I'm not sure about the other questions, but as for the oil leak check and replace the valve cover gasket if necessary.

[Never use the term "torque" with valve cover bolts. SNUG.]

As soon as you start it up, it starts drizzling out, Someone told me that it is a cam seal. Is this true? Also how hard is it to replace the timing belt? Also, does anyone know where I can find the pipe from the manifold to the cat? one of the flexible parts are bad and its loud. :laser:

Is it not the 4g35 motor on the car? It seems I remember seeing that designation on a 92+ n/t at the junk yard, or is my memory just bad.

What about changing the timing belt? Is it harder or easier that I think?

Ok good, because I replaced a timing belt on my neighbor's 97 Galant and it was pure hell. The pulleys on the accessories are literally a 1/2 inch from the frame.

ALSO, the flex pipe on the exhaust is broke. Where can I find these? I looked at Autozone, but they don't have them. :laser:

135k is a lotta milage.
First thing I would do is a complete tuneup. Changing all belts oils etc.

As soon as I get it, I'm going to do the belts, change all fluids, tuneup, etc. :laser:

ahh, you too got screwed with a 4g37. i have the same motor in my 93 eclipse. there are very limited options for us. all i know there is available is an injen short ram, which is def something worth getting over the stock intake. i belivev monza also makes a muffler section but past that, there isnt anything that ive been able to find engine wise. now you can do non engine upgrades, like drop springs/struts, new brake set up ( i have cross drilled and slotted rotors on mine). i think we should petition AEM to make intakes and headers for our cars. :dsm:

We should start a petiton. I agree. I would like to have a turbo setup or a header on my 4g37. GSEclipse06, YOUR CAR looks like my cars twin!! Wow!

i know some people have turbo'd their set up but from what people here have told me they dont hold much boost. as for petitioning, we need enough people to show them that its worth them making it. i would ball park atleast 100 people and i dont think there are even that many 4g37 owners on here.

I also have a 4g37 motor, and I wouldnt mind them making some AEM parts for my car aswell. There isnt much to do to mine right now. And I am fixing to have to replace the head on mine. The cam is nocking or a retainer is just hitting. But I dont know for sure yet.

gotta res this thread

we need a petition to get this stuff done. im stuck with the 4g37 too and would REALLY like to get some more power out of it for less than $5000 LOL.

I had this motor in my first dsm and its crap. DONT waste your money on that motor. For five thousand dollars you could buy a nice 1g turbo or a decent 2g.

I've got a 4g37 and it has taken a lot of abuse from me. It has almost 160k on it and i ran the piss out of it, and i do mean ran the piss out of it... I never taught it'd hold up as long as it did, one night i was goin down the highway at 90 went to down shift to 4th and hit 2nd boy that rpm gauge rapped around fast! and it stayed to gather then about a month later the oil pan gasket blew out and it blew up. I just rebuilt and i'm having problems with the timing. Timing belts are a pain in the ass really, you've got to pull the under drive pulleys off and i personally don't want to ever do it again but i most likley will. AEM parts sound good to me, a set of headers I'd love. Also to the other 4G37's what did you do about the mafs on the intake, I'd like to put an intake on my car but that sensor is kickin' my butt as well...

"Petition"? "Petition" for what? Who do you want to vote?

Savor your engine. You will like it very, very much, when gasoline's $4.50 a gallon in six months.

My names jake i have a 4g37, if you need help for a petition let me know i would love to have a header on my car.
