high, i am planing on buying a 1993 eagle talon that has the 1.8L engine and is auto. i want to swap in a 4g63 and GST/TSI manual trans. i plan on buying a GST/TSI front clip from a local junkyard (yes i know they have them, i have seen them). i need to know if i the 4g63 engine/trany will bolt up or if i can swap motor mounts from the clip?

P.S. also in the tuning section i am alittle unclear about how to go about tuning the car for more fuel. I plan on a 16g swap eventualy so I know i'm going to need fuel upgrades. what are your suggestions?

I also forgot, i am swaping all the wireing off of the clip, so no hacked harnesses. and sence it is a junkyard i think they would probly let me peace together my own clip if i wanted. If i can make one it would be a 6bolt 4g63, 1g body and harnesses, 2g GST trany (i think there stronger?), posibly a 2g MAF, and a 2g exhaust manifold.

I think 1.8s are on the pass side of the car and 4g63's are on the drivers. So i think it would take alot of work. 1g fwd are cheap so you should be able to find one alot easier than makeing all the mounts work.

well i really need to know if i can swap the motor/trans mounts, if they bolt up or if there tack welded on.

"The mounts are the same and bolt right in.

Re: 4g37 t 4g63T swap FAQ

Turbo ECU
Turbo wiring harness
turbo tranny (NT tranny will work but I constant blew them....my turbo one is holding great)
Low impedance thingy for injectors(it sits on the firewall in the middle has 4 wires going into it)
coil pack and transistor FOR THAT YEAR MODEL ECU(90 or 91-94)
Turbo head with all sensors like CAS, etc
turbo block or NT 4g63 block
turbo thermostat housing
turbo manifolds (exhaust and intake)
turbo intake piping
turbo MAF
turbo itself (duh)
turbo downpipe
intercooler and IC piping
preferably external oil cooler from a 90
90 oil filter housing preferable
if you get 91-94 stuff then oil cooler isn't needed
turbo motor mounts (they are a little tougher)
bov

Recommended to rebuild freshly and replace all the parts with Mitsu stuff or better. Search for rebuild info to see what all that includes (fresh sensors like knock and all is a must)

if you are going from a 90 to 91-94 tranny you will need the shifter assembly swapped....go to vfaq.com to see why

I would recommend to try to stay with the same year and model for all the parts as much as possible. This swap isn't that bad if you have all the stuff and you have to pull the 1.8 engine anyways for whatever reason."

I planed on pulling the 1.8 as the 1st thing i did and as for a front clip, it is all going to be the same year exept exhaust manifold and posibly tranny. I still need to know if i can use a 2g GST tranny and i think i read on the forums that they are stronger then the 1g gst trany????. BTW the 1.8 is the SOHC motor not the non-turbo version of the 4g63, just wantet to make this clear and make sure that i can bolt up or swap mounts to use the 4g63. The car in question has many issues w/ the interor and exterior, as well as probbly mechanical, but i'm paying no more then $300 (probbly $200) for it and its almost rust free. (small amounts of surface rust normal for a used michigan car).

255lph pump, AFPR, 550cc or 660cc injectors and a S-AFC. This is the most common setup. You could go with a 190lph pump and no AFPR, but you might as well plan ahead.

i would like to know if there are any alternitaves to a piggy back AFC. is there anyone who does "chipping" of the stock computer that can be set up for a spesific size injectior and fuel presure??? I have a Rtec7 ECU upgrade on my RX-7 and its the cats pjs, its got a ton of cool fetures like automaticly retarding the timing 1 degree for every psi of boost over 10psi, it also gets rid of useless parts of the programing and other niffty things. Is there any thing like that out there for the 1g DSM?

Stop wasting your time with 1.8 to turbo conversions. Spend the extra $1000 and just buy a turbo car. Not only will you spend way too much time and money into just the engine swap alone, your going to have even more time into swaping pedal assemblys and all the other shit that goes along.

hey dont be a prick, its my time and money i can do what i want. and i happen to like a challenge. if you dont have any good information dont post, keep your commie opinons to yourself.

would i need a adj. FPR w/ a 225 walbro? my RX-7 runs fine w/ stock FPR and 225 walbro but then again thats a rotary engine.

What do engines have to do with FPR overrun? Nothing.

Yes, you'll need an AFPR with the 255.

A 2g transmission works in 1g turbo cars. Since all the mounting points in a 1.8L are the same for a 2.0L FWD car, you should have no problem using a 2g transmission as well. Exhaust manifold is a minor thing -- it really has no consequence as to whether or not you can do this swap. Basically the items you want to keep consistent are ECU and harness. The 90 coil plug is different from 91-94 coils, so use whichever one matches your harness. DGajre777's post has lots of useful information, including the link.

You need an AFPR to run the 255 fuel pump on a DSM. The 255 on its own over runs the regulator.

i've leard a ton already, thanx guys. i was wondering if there is any "JWT" ecu upgrade equivilant in the DSM world??? if so where can i get it, how much is it, and how well does it work. if not what are my other options besides the safc. i would really like to stay away from the piggy back, but if thats the only option then thems the breaks.
