Hi, I'm Nick. I have researched/googled/vFAQ'd/ and YouTubed' the crap out of my 420A motor.....My main question, which I could not find a answer... is what my: 1998 Eclipse RS weight is with no: Sunroof, Cruise Control, Power steering, Anti-Lock brakes (I couldn't believe it, I know), Power mirrors, Power windows, Power seats (etc.), fog lights, Rear wiper, wiper delay, LOL, paint on the door handles :), extra body trim on some Eclipses, and possibly A/C (Plus any other options I didn't know existed that would add some weight) compared to a GS, Gs-T, GSX? What does all that luxury.......weigh? I'm just really curious, because my car is so "base", that I think it might react to small amounts of horsepower boosts alot better, than per se: a loaded Eclipse (add AWD 200 lbs) I think it may actually be worth building my motor and boosting........Please no 420A bashing by 4g63 users...It makes you look bad..... But I actually believe, after a year of research, that the 420A is a good platform, and if built......Can function perfectly as a boosted car. Pleace everyone comment as much as possible. Because all the 420a guys wanna know anywayz......Hell this should be a sticky, unless I missed the sticky in my research. :) Thanx for any words of wisdom. I'm a newbie, and glad to become a member, will have pics up shortly.

Nick

There isn't anything "wrong" with boosting the 420a motor. If you want to know the EXACT weight of YOUR car, take it to a scale (local metal scrap yard, quarry, etc). Don't forget to fill out your profile when you add pictures man, and welcome to 'Tuners

The only thing is that the 4g63t is easier to start with then the 420a. Much harder and more work.

I have to agree with Nick. My 1996 Talon is a base 5 speed. Everytime I put a simple bolt on mod, it respondes fairly nice, nothing huge, but noticble. I have a full cold air, cat back exhaust, short throw shifter, and headers. I dont mean to brag, but its pretty damn quick for no boost and no engine work. (Although, my engine has been rebuilt to stock specs and has a little over 7k on it.):thumb:

Oh really?

OP so what are you looking to do? Just slap a turbo kit on and run it till it blows?

If you think that's quick, I'm guessing a stock GSX will blow your mind like a bullet through a brain.

Good idea to keep in mind here, if you have an NT motor, don't speak highly of it, unless it's boosted.

You're just asking for trouble/hilarity.

my bad... your right. To anwser your questions, no i dont plane on turboing it, yes stock gsx's are ####ing quick but not quiet mind blowing. The point im trying to get across is compared to other 420a owners who have power everything, with power steering, and a/c the gains in power on base 420a's seem to be a little bit more for identical mods. Not trying to be cocky, im just comparing my experience and other 420a owners imput compared to 420a's that have more options. Yet again this is just a simple theory, nothing to get bent out of shape over.

I had a base model RS 420A, it was quick if I was racing a civic.
Now, I have a GS with all the goodies power windows etc.
It does respond well to the "bolt on's", but I know that I will never be able to make it "hang" with out a turbo.
But, I still love my car and will continue to spend money on it until it is fast.:thumb:

I'm going to get a automatic 1g GSX (with an oil leak and bad idle) next month, for a really good deal.:hellyeah:
So maybe then I'll say different but 420A's are great motors.:sneaky:
Check out bullettdsm's profile, he his all about his N/A Eclipse.
There are more too.:shhh:

nope, never had it when I bought the car n im to lazy to put it back in. besides... more engine bay space, less clutter, looks better too.:thumb:

The topic is a minefield.

420A bashers here find out what bashing is.

Check the various "weight" threads. DSMs, even AWD and convertibles, weigh very nearly the same- there's less than 300 pound difference. The parts you list may comprise 200 all told.
