Ok here is the question, in NON TURBO applications ( no n02 ether), how would the 2g 420a and the 1g 4g63 compare to one an other? THIS IS AN ALL MOTOR QUESTION! I know the great debate is over turbo this, reliability that. this is different.

Well neon engine or eclipse engine with basily the same applications as the turbo engine. The NA jdm motor claims to make 180hp so i would say that the 4g63 is a better made motor and has proven to be stronger.

I would say the 4g63 because it just has more upgradibility.

I say the 4g63 to. Theres so many aftermarket parts its not even funny

All of the upgrade parts for the 4g63 are turbo based. N/A 4g63's are almost unheard of so you would be exploring new territory and will have to do a lot of custom work. All of the posts above are talking about turbo applications, and that is not what the question was.

The 90-94 2.0L N/A 4g63 makes 135hp/125tq (the turbo makes 180-195hp/203tq) and the 420a makes 140hp/130tq. (Crank hp numbers)

They are pretty much similar. Now if you are talking about a 4g63t converted to n/a it would have even less power because of lower compression.

N/A aftermarket is probably larger for the 420a since that is about as far as most 420a drivers go. While the 4g63 drives are mostly focused around turbo.

I would vote on 4g63 on this one. The 1g head flows a little better than 420a both completely stock. I have heard of 420a motors Na still pulling just a little on the 4g63 cars however. Given the wieght difference. Its neck in neck really here in the USA

The 4g64 is far the best n/a beast. You can use all the head parts(intake, cams, etc.) from the 4g63t. 2.0 vs. 2.4 and why they hell would you what a chrysler motor?

The reason a 1g 4g63 car would be faster is power to weight ratio. The 1g cars weigh less than 2g cars. A N/A 4g63 in a 2g body vs a 420a in a 2g body will be slower.

Oh and I was wondering what the 1g head flows? All I ever found was 2g numbers and seeing as you said the 1g flows better I assume you have numbers?

I know the 420a head outflows the 2g 4g63 head drastically, but I have always been interested in what the 1g flows granted more cfm's doesn't necessarily mean more power.

As stated earlier, there's more aftermarket parts for the 420a rather than the non-turbo 4G63 (but they're still out there) but if your goal is outright NA power, building a 4G63 would be my choice, of course I'd find a 4G64 crank first :D

I have heard that the 420a can make more power than an NA 4G63, and that the head flows better but without actual data I just take it as the usual forum gossip.

I have not had somone ask for the astual number lately, I thing I have a comparison graph I snitched one day. CFM on a head = Potential for horsepower. The higher the CFM a device like a head, throttle body, and intake with flow the less restriction for when things like boring a throttle body or more boost enter the mix. I will search for the comparison.

In this question i am focusing on the 2.0n/t 4g63 and the 2.0 420a. i understand that the
4g64 has the potential to make more power because of the larger displacement, and the sohc 1.8 4g37 does not fit here because it is too small at 1.8l. so as far as its going now i like this... so far we found that the 420a's head MAY flow more for a performance difference between the 2 motors, any thing else?

p.s. no flaming please this is a simple comparison of the 2 n/t motors

To be honest I am sure they both have a similar N/A potential. The 420a head does flow more than the 2g 4g63, but that is not the debate, and until I see a flow chart for the 1g 4g63 head we won't really know. Basically even if the head flows more than the 420a that doesn't mean it will make more power. From a N/A stand point both heads provide enough cfm for what a built n/a motor will need. Not to mention you can port them both out if necessary.

The highest 420a n/a power is at 203whp, and I don't think anyone has ever built up an n/a 4g63 motor so I have never seen what the record is currently. From an n/a stand point the 420a has been through more R&D then the 4g63 n/a.

I really think from an N/A standpoint they are about equal.

Heh, all I know is that the 420a has made a great dd for me.
