Ok so I've seen a few post on here but none that answer my ?s if they r on here I'm sorry for the new post. So I've seen people who say the stock 420a will run 5-8 psi with no problem. I'm just wondering for how long could you dd it before it blew? Not a new rebuilt motor otherwise id have forged internals.,But it has good compression. Also I'm really only looking for about 200-250whp. So what turbo should I be looking at so that I only haveta run 5-8 psi?

A friend of mine ran 7 psi on his car. it had about 150k miles on it. it ran good for a while but 3 months later it fired the rings. we are about to boost my brothers 3g eclipse this weekend and we are only putting it on 4 psi for that reason.

Its mainly recommended to do a build before boost. If you boost on stock engine, they are prone to fried rings as mentioned above. These engines are not big boost makers on stock internals.

If you are going to do it, do it right! do a forged build.

Ya I'm thinking I'm just gonna keep the n/t as my dd and end up buying a gsx or gst preferably a gsx. Just don't have that much cash laying around to go find one in decent condition. Just trying to get some thoughts. Prob just end up waiting till tax Time and buy a gsx or gst

To OP: Common sense comes into play. If your motor already has 170000 miles on it chances are the motor is pretty worn out. When you add a turbo to a car that isn't built for it, even though it can handle it, you lower the life of your motor. So how long will it last? Well it depends on how well the car has been takin care of, how hard the engine has been pushed and well... luck. Compression test will give a heads up but anything can happen.

*Thinks to himself* If only there were pistons for the 420A that would hang on our stock rods that would handle atleast 20PSI of boost.....

My instructor at my college, had a dodge neon R/T, with a 420, he ran 10 Psi on stock internals for at least a year before he sold it. Engine was bone stock , besides mild cams, injectors, RRFPR, pump.
Had 160,000 or so on engine.

Btw that car made 200 at the wheels on 10 psi.

I have a friend who has a neon who got the sealed power pistons, he hasn't run boost on them, but from what he says they seem very good. For the price they seem very decent.

Probably had very good maintenance on it.

I have been wondering if anyone has tried the sealed power pistons from DSM graveyard to see how much boost they would handle.

These are what Im talking about

DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for DSM Parts!

They are still cast and when you cast any metal you weakin it so 8 to 10psi rules apply but the price sure is nice :)
