420A, output shaft bearing problem.

Hi,

I am very new here, and am having a problem with my car. It was making a "weird" grinding sound coming from the gearbox, so I pulled the transmission, opened it up and instantly saw that the bearing supporting the outputshaft ( near the diff ) had extensive wear on it. Now the problem I am having, is,. identifying the gearbox, all numbers, letters are gone,.... And then the problem of finding that particular set of bearings for this car. When I go and look for this gearbox I get a lot of types/models so it is quite confusing to me.

The car is a 1997 Eclipse GS 420a 5 speed manual gearbox. ( I believe this is a base model ) It's US built. I went to the dealer and they refuse to help for it's an imported car,. yeah that's how they behave over here service wise! I am trying to attach a picture of the gearbox to this thread, it's not the perfect angle but the only one I have,maybe that will help.

Please let me know how to i.d. the transmission and the bearing part number.

Well the transmission ID is NVT-350

Google MD747740 Part number and should give you a Diagram From partsMaster
They do global deliveries in case you can't find it anywhere...

But here are all of the Part numbers

MD747707 - Output Shaft Inner Bearing

The overview/diagram I saw was for a carisma. However, the bearing on the photo on google looked exactly like the one that got,. well, almost destroyed. Is it so that this part is used also in other Mitsubishi cars like the galant? If so then I might be in luck.

Yeah service is really awe full here on the island. Not only them all dealers act like that.
Now I am wondering, then what is this F5M sumn sumn transmission I also see? Or is that the same?

Yeah that bearing is used in different car like Galant, Fto... and many others transmission's.
What i couldn't find was that F5M sumn sumn transmission, which i don't think is the same transmission.
