420A Modular Clutch Options

My friends is looking (really needs) a new cluth for his 420A. He had a Centerforce dual friction clutch in there before his tranny blew. He broke the 1-2 and 2-3 shift forks and when this happened it broke one of the springs on the clutch. So in short he is looking for a new clutch of a different kind. We were hoping to go with an ACT clutch so we ordered one from a place and they sent us one, but it isnt a modular clutch, it is a 4g63 clutch.

Are there any other options out there for a 420A motor other than stock and a Centerforce??

It is a 96 RS Eclipse, I/H/E, UDP, and other nickity nack parts here and there. Nothing too much. But it deffinately needs something over stock.

I don't really know what is out there for the 420a, but I have experience with the Centerforce on my Galant. I beat the crap out of this clutch and it has been going strong for 15k miles. I really didn't expect it to last this long. The Galant is a pretty heavy car and 6000 rpm launches at the track didn't bother it one bit. I don't know exactly how much power I'm making, but I would guess at least double what a N/A 420a would make.

You can try the SPEC clutches.. That's what a lot of us use.. We tend to stray from the CF DF, because they don't last very long.. I have a Spec stage III, but that's probably a little on the overkill side for your app... www.howellautomotive.com ...

If you plan on boosting, I don't recommend the alu. flywheel, as you'll stall sometimes in between shifts.. If you stay N/A, any thing to lighten your rotating assembly can help, so it might be worth the extra $300 or so...

How long do the CFDF clutches last in your car Rax2? It seems like a 400 hp 3200 lb awd car doing 6000 rpm launches with sticky tires would be a bit more stress than fwd N/A. Maybe they don't make the 420a clutches as well as the 4g63 clutches.

I found those SPEC clutches last night and they do look mighty tempting. We havent really had any troubles with the CF DF clutch, we seem to break the trans more then the clutch. So who knows.

I am pretty sure we will look into a SPEC clutch.

I would go with a SPEC stage 2 or 2+...I was going to get the Stage 3, but I was informed of many problems that people run into down the line, after about 10k with them...I guess it's with the design of that particular one though.
I haven't heard anything bad about the Stage 2 or 2+ though.

I'm sorry for those of you who have the stage 3..I hope you don't run into these same problems I heard about, it was something about the clutch just not disengaugeing after 10,000 miles gets on them..
