420a fuel filter located?

Hi i was wonder for a 97 eclipse gs 420a non turbo where is it located passenger side behind the right rear wheel where? and is it easy to get too?
if you can take a pic and show me that would be awesome.
Because i need to replace it when i start the car up i smell gas.
and it stutters at times and hesitate i cleaned the throttle body so the stalling is gone.
But if you can help me with the fuel filter tell me how to get too it and let me know if its easy to do,that would be good,its my first time changing a fuel filter..
im learning.

Yes, for a 97 it should be in the fuel line on the passenger side back by the gas tank. It's not too hard to access, just usually a pain to get off if it hasn't been done in a while. Sometimes the bolts don't want to loosen and you'll break the connectors, or even some of the line. If this happens I usually go to the parts store and pick out a generic filter with 2 nipple ends and clamp hoses to both sides.

Best of luck to you! Just jack it up and take a look, you should be able to find it easily.

the 4g63s are under the hood. ours are on the passenger side underneath the car near the back. It's pretty obvious when you follow the fuel lines from the tank.

Oh ok..I got you,and i dont know why but when i start up my car i smell gas even when driving it use to be a really high smell but after a while i stop smelling it unless i go to the bank by the exhaust.I dont know what it is.But i hope when i change the fuel filter it can help,or maybe its the lines..
But thanks,and is it sort of hard to remove the fuel filter?

Like I said, it can be difficult if the bolts are rusted on...

The fuel filter is only under the hood of 4g63's and 95 420a's. You'll find yours under the car.

Smelling gas while running is never a good thing . It can come from a lot of different sources though: Leaky injector O-rings, gas line leak, improperly sealed fuel pump under the back seat, etc. But my suggestion is figure out where it's coming from before you blow yourself up

Hey so i checked,and i still couldn't find it by the rear wheel.
Someone told me to check right where the battery is..
But if it was by the rear wheel where would it be around there?
and should i take out the back seat?

heyy did you ever get this fixed?? 96 eclipse with the 420a does the same but it doesnt small like gas.... "not trying to steal your post just wanting to know if you fixed it"

It is in the fuel line, passenger, rear. U will need a 14mm, 19mm line wrenches and 12mm socket for bracket bolt. Simple to change!!!

## fuel pump with strainer is under the back seat. I had a rusty gook in my tank and was burning up pumps every 3 months. Pull and change pump, and ## filter is 12in past pump on the hi pressure line. Also put a new regulator and clean injetors, should run like new again!!! Fuel delivery will!!! Lol!!!

The fuel filter is in the rear in front of the rear tire, and ya.

just changed mine. Pita. why is there so much stuff jammed in such a small area? barely got a wrench in there. and what's up with gas these days? I've done fuel filter changes before and gotten gas on my hands and arms and no biggie. had premium in the tank this filter change and about burnt my skin up (not literally. Gas/fire ha ha)
