So about 2 months ago i purchased on Craigslist a 1999 Mitsubishi Eclipse GS 10th anniversary. The previous owner told me that the car does have issues, reason why i got the vehical so cheap. But when I got the car it made a large amount of smoke.Fixed that. Never noticed a knock at that time. Also 2 of the spark plugs didn't catch, so I replaced those with the new ones. But now i noticed about two weeks ago that the car made a knock while looking at the motor. It doesn't knock when it's at idle. But once the car is reved up to about 2500rpms it knocks, and it keeps knocking if you hold it at the same amount of rpms. The car does kinda have a gas smell from it but I doubt that this issues would be linked to this one. I can't really see a difference in power at all. But would like to know what my issue is and should i stop driving the car when I drive it everyday. Here is a link to the YouTube video I made of the noise to the car. It could be internal maybe lifters, may want to park it if it sounds too bad, its a chance you take, until you figure out what that noise is. Since the car has some issues youll never know until its too late, mine had lifter tick but video kinda hard to tell.

Yeah It's a very faint sound that's why i think it was hard to pick up then noise in the video, but I have drove it every day for two weeks since i noticed it and it hasn't got worse or better. I haven't checked my lifters yet, but could it maybe be valve clap?

I wish I could see the video. Mine has a noise at about 3000rpm and up. I still drive it because it doesn't sound like a rod and it does just fine under 3000. I have changed my oil and it was free from shavings/silk. I guess I'll take the cover off and take a look at them lifters anyway.
