Whats up guys. I need to know what cams to go with on my car. Im not sure what would be the best cams for me. Here is my set up im running and tell me what you think. Thanks in advance for the help!

Hahn turbo kit (16g)
Forged internals
cometic head gasket 8:8:1 compression
underdrive crank pulley
head has been slightly ported
Greddy RS BOV
Stock valvetrain
FMIC
2 1/2 exhaust from downpipe back
450 injectors

Electronics
SAFC II
oil pressure gauge
boost gauge
Air/fuel gauge
Apexi turbo timer
wideband

Not sure if you need all that but figured it wouldnt hurt. If you could help me with a good cams for my car i would appreciate it. Another thing is how much boost could i run using the 450 and SAFC II. I was shooting at around 16-18 psi? not sure though. thanks again:thumb:

Well your gonna need some kind of afpr to control the flow of fuel to those big 450cc injectors.

So consider using SFMU or a 1:1 FPR, a SAFC won't be able to handle the fuel your throwing at it. Don't forget the walbro 255 fuel pump.

As for cams,

I wouldn't worry about it right now, I would concentrate more on on getting boosted first. And once that is done, you might consider ripping off the head an Port Polishing it first.

Or port polish it while the bottom end is getting built.

But basically the stock cams are fine, but if you do decide to upgrade, go with a set of crower or crane stage 2 turbo cams. (I forget the actual number). But DO NOT neglect the valvetrain as that whole step must be completed otherwise you seriously risk floating a valve, and destroying the head.

Considering the way the SAFC only modifies MAP signal and, if you're into boost, you've effectively bypassed the MAP, I wouldn't think the SAFC would do anything at all for you when boosted, but I've never bothered with boost or the SAFC. Megasquirt all the way if you're serious about making power on a 420A.

As for the cams, I would look to picking up a set of the Crower 2 turbo grinds. Crower vs. Crane is a matter of opinion and I just feel that Crower grinds are a bit smarter. The Cranes might tend to have a bit more duration, translating into gentler ramp action to peak lift (a bit easier on valve springs), but this is really only something to consider if you're building a nasty, all motor car with extreme cams like Crower 3+ or Crane 0018+.

Hope this helps. Personally, I think you have a really nice set up. You might stand to see more gains from replacing that piggyback hack with MSnS. Altogether, you're looking at about the same amount of money. One will give you a bit more power while you fight to tune the car, while the other will allow you to maximise power output through total control of your fuel and ignition system. All the biggest names in turbo 420A are switching to MSnS. Plenty of information out there. I know it's a bit daunting at first (I have yet to complete my installation), but it's done every day and the MS community is very helpful.

Something to think about...

Alright thanks guys. im already boosted and threw a rod bearing so i had to replace those. For right now cause im trying to get it up and running would the SAFC work and if so how much boost could i push with the SAFC. I forgot to add that i have the Walbaro 255 and Spec clutch

How much does the Msns cost and is it hard to install and tune?
I want a good bit of power but not to much cause im affraid that i will have traction problems if i get up there to much. i was looking for like 15-18 psi. Thanks for the help guys This tunning stuff is driving me crazy:confused:

Just an estimate, but figure your SAFC will be good for up to 15psi before you really have to start worrying about it advancing the timing too far.

IF your just interested in getting your car boosted again, then your on the right track. If you haven't bought the SAFC already, then save your money. Just start researching megasqurit and you'll realize how much more you get with MS then you do with SAFC.

Talk to/PM Talon ESI-T, aka Terry, and he'll let you know the 411 on the megasquirt system. And be able to get you one that is setup for the car at a good price.

Thanks again for the help. thanks for the cam forum too man. I think im gonna hold off on the cams and see how much the mega squirt system is cause fuel is very important right now. always is! but. Thanks again for the cam advice that will def. be my next upgrade. thanks
