hey guys i just bought a 95 eclipse n/t 2.0 dohc with a m/t...supposibly the motor only has around 50k on it but the car itself has 220k .....runs fine and has quite a bit of power....but i noticed at idle smoke was coming from the tailpipe....also i parked on a hill and left it in 1st gear bc the e-brake dont work...and it slowly starting slipping and then catching itself down the kinda steep driveway LOL .....so i didnt know if it was clutch/pressure plate problems or compression....did dry compression test and it went 1-4....155 -180-155-180....then i did a wet test and it went to 210-240-210-220.....so rings ? any other ideas.....????thanks for any help

thanks....i plan on buying new rings and bearings and seals .....my clutch pedal is really soft also ? any ideas y or is it just a granny LOL....bled my master cylinder already....i bought this car just to kinda fix up and make it run smooth....plan on buying a starter kit off ebay for 900 bucks then getting the fmu and walbro pump....anything else i will need to do to run 5-8psi....also how much hp will that probably do for a stock motor?

You probably still have air in the clutch. You have to bleed it from the slave cylinder. I would say that you need a missing link or fuel cut defender, but you've got a 95 and their ECU's tend to not care about boost. Make sure you get a Walbro 255HP. IF you ever decide to go for more boost, it'll handle most of what you can throw at it. You'll need a downpipe custom welded as well. No one sells a prefabbed one. Treadstone sells a downpipe and dumptube kit with all the parts, but again, it has to be welded together. To be sure about HP you'll have to get it Dyno'd. Otherwise, I'd say to start looking at some 420A turbo guys' profiles that have proven stats. That will at least give you an idea. We try to discourage benchracing. It can lead to big ego's based on unproven hearsay. Good luck with your build and make sure your search for the answers to some of your future questions, there's tons of info on here. Sometimes it's hard finding results for our engine on this site, but you should checkout 2gnt.com and neons.org. There is LOTS of help on there, too. :thumb:

thanks....what about a fmu....do i have to buy a vortech or will an off brand work just as good

Off brands have been known to work fine...but I'd think twice before purchasing any cheap part of a fuel system, especially the part that controls fuel pressure under boost!

Check around ebay, they can be found used for fairly cheap :)

If you have a 95, no FCD is needed like Delta said. I'll second his statement.

HP numbers you're looking at have ranged from about 175hp to a little over 200 pushing 6-8psi. But as was said, benchracing is very inaccurate!

When a manual car is in gear and sitting on a hill, what do you think keeps the car from rolling? The engine. If the engine can freewheel easily, then the "parking brake" of the engine will be useless.

thanks guys....hey tech ...any pointers for turboing my 95 420a? u have any problems or anything like that?

Oh gosh, I think I had a problem with everything I tried to do!

Pretty much try to memorize that thread^^
I obviously did a few things different, like I just bought a manifold and external wastegate. Everything is pretty straight forward- I definitely recommend piecing it together yourself though...

If you have any specific questions just let me know!

Yes I know this, but I'm just saying even a brand new car with a manual transmission when parked on a steep enough hill will slip

awesome....im thinking about buying this kit off of ebay....Talon Eclipse Neon Stratus Avenger 420A 2.0L TURBO KIT : eBay Motors (item 270531516133 end time Feb-21-10 10:10:05 PST) ....let me know what u think about it....

Dear god man you don't need all that to go turbo! If you're going to go with an ebay kit, get one of the 420a kit's that is a little more basic. Although, if you do get that kit, I still didn't see a FCD or Missing link. You'll need one of those to boost your 97.

mines a 95 ....from what ive been told i wont need one of those.....does this kit look like it has everything i will need?
