3rd Gear Synchro HELP!!!

Ok so my 3rd gear Synchro is deifinatly out, it always grinds goin into 3rd, downshifting from 5th to 3rd it wont and from 4 to 3 it wont, I also tried starting the car in 3rd gear and slowly releasing the clutch and it started gringing. Now here is my question:

1) how much would a new 3rd gear Synchro cost me?
2) other than "Satan" who could i buy one from?
3) how much to have a shop install one roughly?

i'm tryin to get my car up and running because i just bought a new 1G Talon TSi and need the money for parts to get me faster than this 2G!:dsm:

Like me you are FOOKED!
Any shop will charge you atleast 4-5 hrs of labor just taking the tranny out, then its the matter of going in there just for one syncro...

I would just upgrade to a Shep, TRE, or BM Racing/Turbo Trix

Sorry i cant give you the exact answer to the question you asked but this is atleast my honest input.
 
ya i'm AWD, but i'm not upgrading since i'm tryin to sell it so i can get to work on my 1G Talon TSi. i just need info on the most budget way. where to buy just a single synchro or a cheap kit or something
 
check out www.teamrip.com, they should have a 3rd gear synchro...TRE is charging 325$ for a 3rd&4th geatrset, and here's what that nice price tag comes with>>>Includes: modified 3rd & 4th gear, modified 3rd/4th hub & sleeve, heavy duty synchros, keys & springs, bearings, shift rail & snap ring.
 
Is it true you need a hydrolic press to work on this? or with me, my buddy who grad from wyotech auto school and a chilton over a weekend be able to get this done?
 
You do need a hydraulic press. Read the trans rebuild vfaq its not extremely difficult. You will probably need to replace the hub/slider and gear along with synchro if it is popping out of third.
 
Would a 1G AWD transmission work in a 2G AWD? I know the 6 bolts work with a 2G Eclipse but will a 1G AWD transmission work with a 7-Bolt motor?
 
I've got the exact same problem. I have to literally punch it in first and second to get up enough speed to shift into fourth gear. And no, don't even attempt to shift to third cause it grinds like all get out and then refuses to shift into fourth at this point. *sigh*

Rebuild here I come.
 
ya, the problem is rebuilds cost big money, and then the other problem i would normally have (if i wern't tryin to sell this car to get money for my new 1G) is while in there might as well beef up the tranny for more power and final drive and center diff. I just need to fix this one problem and my front bumper then i'm good to sell, people in my area pay a premium for GSX's

B&G could fix grinnding? i mean i know little metal fragments and so on but it could make a actual difference in what i have described with only 3rd gear?
 
Well it fixed my 2nd gear grind problem, it just lubricates everything so much better, its worth a shot considering your alternative is to rebuild the tranny.

My 5th gear grinded no matter what speed or how you shifted and a double clutch into gear didnt even take care of it.
I used GM syncomesh (partially synthetic) and that took away the grind 100% and smoothed up my gearbox. I bought the partial synthetic but there was a full synthetic but it was $13 a quart. Being a DSMer I didnt have enough money. :p

That is true, i'll try that first, if that doesn't work i'll just have to buy the synchro hub and other junk kit
 
BG didn't do squat for my grinding. I was running fresh synthetic when it all started. Its definitely a mechanical failure. Maybe you'll do better though. :)
 
Its worth a try, i mean i am tryin to sell this 2G to get money for my 1G project i'm workin on
 
BG Didn't fix it, goes to AAMCO on Monday, Then it gets sold, then my 1G will get new parts. Thanks for all the help
