Magnaflow sells mufflers with a 3" inlet. Also an exhaust shop should be able to strech the pipe to make it 3".

I got a Megan Racing 3" muffler of ebay for only 50 bucks. It looks like an apex n1 and it sounds awesome. Also it is stainless steal with beautiful TIG welds!

I second this.

Ebay is your friend.

Yahoo is your friend.

Google is your friend.

Any DSM shop will be your friend aswell. :thumb:

There are alot of 3" mufflers out there. The only reason most sell the 2.5 is because that is the step up for most of the Honda/Acura guys.

pro exhaust on ebay has good looking and good sounding N1 style for around $35. Thats where I got mine:

Not that anyone but me likes them but I got a 3inch in and out flowmaster for 60 bux at my local speedshop.

3" Mufflers everywhere, you should be searching for Turbo Exhausts..

To, me.. it just makes sense to keep the same diameter all the way, why ghetto rig sections... Pay to Play!

Be careful about ebay. I bought a muffler that was supposted to be 3in inlet and it wasnt. The guy refunded my money but it still cost me time.

would it hurt his car power are any thing like that if he was just to run the 2.5 inch with the 3 inch pipe

Yes.

If you don't know what TYPE of muffler you want, "generally speaking" a straight through muffler will be louder and yeild more power. A chambered muffler will give up some power, but will be a more mellow sound.

My personal opinion: I like chambered mufflers. Why? I feel that the straight-through types can drone too much, and I like the tone of the chambered mufflers.

YMMV

I just realized that this thread is a 7 year old thread revival!!!

To the "revival OP", Yes it would hurt your performance to have a full 3" exhaust with a 2.5" muffler because it would neck down at the end and disrupt the exhaust flow.

I would agree with you if we were talking about a n/a v8 car, but a turbocharged 4 cylinder won't sound like that even with the same muffler and you will be hurting your performance. On a turbo car the turbo creates all the back pressure you will need, the rest of the exhaust need to be as free flowing as possible. If you experience drone you can add a resonator or a second straight through muffler like Liquidx mentioned. I have a full 3" exhaust with a resonator and straight through muffler and there is no drone and a very smooth, powerful exhaust tone.

About your last statement, maybe it is different for 4cyl cars vs. 8 cyl trucks, but I have found the opposite of that. Especially with a flowmaster 40 series. Drone drone drone, switched to a straigh 3" magnaflow bullet style and never looked back, but Then again, that is 4 more cylynders, but on my next exhaust I may do the same magnaflow on my car as the truck, I like it that much.

On my first DSM, I had a chambered GReddy that sounded awesome. Loved it.

I then bought a new turbo-back that was a straight-through, still sounded nice, but was definitely louder. Didn't get too much experience with the drone on that, as I tore that car apart shortly after buying the exhaust.

I did have a straight through muffler on my Integra back in high school, and good Lord was that annoying. But really, any muffler was beyond helping that car.

I agree 100%. I had headers and a 2.5" exhaust with a straight through magnaflow on my non/turbo eclipse and it was ungodly loud. I tried different mufflers and added a louvered core resonator to try and quiet it down but it was no use. There is a HUGE difference between N/A cars and Turbo cars when it comes to exhaust. The turbo creates its own back pressure and quiets down the exhaust all by itself.
