Welding new muffler, 2.5 in piping, 3 in inlet

Just bought a new HKS muffler for my DSM. I have a Bomz racing 2.5 inch exhaust system right now, I got a buddy that will weld on my new muffler but the only thing is that my piping is 2.5 inches but my new muffler inlet is 3 inches, how do I work with this?

Go to the parts store and buy a reducer.
