I bought a 90 talon awd recently with no rear axles. I purchased used axles, but when I went to install, the passenger one went in without problems (clicked right in). However the driver's side is becoming a pain, I've tried and tried but had no luck to snap it in place.

I was wondering if 3-bolt rear axles came with different spindle combinations or something. The axles look identical. The only thing I noticed was that the axle I installed on the passenger side has the number " 38 " engraved in the end of the axle and the other one I cannot get to snap in has "48" on it.

any ideas?

The drive shafts for the limited-slip differential are of different length and, in addition, the right drive shaft has a two-part serration;

The drivers side is the shorter one

So No you can't use LSD axles with a non-LSD rear diff (and vice versa)

The lengths on the axles I have seem to be the correct. I am just having troubles getting the driver's side shaft to snap into the rear diff. I guess I am going to swap axles from one side to the other and see if they go in.
