sounds silly. but has anyone tried a 3.5 inch exhaust on the 1g or 2g TEL's. i tried searching but only thing out there is 3" and 2.5".

Does anyone know what a 2.5 pressbent is good for. Probably not much, but when I got my exhaust done I didn't know much and the fabricator said too big is bad. I guess he doesn't know much about turbo cars. I was thinking of going with a 3" turbo back. Does anyone know where I could get a good deal. (mandrel bent)

I have a 3" mandrel and was going to swap it out for a 3.5" when I was going to put a 30R on the car. I was also considering 4" as well.

The bigger the better once you get up there in power :thumb:

Search the parts catalog on this site? Go through the parts vendors? Search the forums?

Dejon has a nice cheap turbo back system. VRS is also good and cheap. Megan is a good choice too if you don't wanna spend too much. If you wanna step up more in price, thermal is an excellent option. As is the buschur exhaust. DSS has a good system, and if you really wanna get something RnR isn't bad either.

But seriously, so a little research before you ask a question like that that has been answered 100000000 times.

Edit: If you have acess to a welder and VERY cheap way to go about it is to just buy the bends you need and fab it up yourself. That way you get your own muffler choice and material choice. There's write-ups all over this site and on vfaq for DIY exhaust.

I have a friend that had a 95 tsi awd. Is was set up for drag racing. He had a straight 3.5" turbo-back with no cat or resonator, just a magnaflow muffler. The car was fully set up for drag racing. It must have put down over 700hp.

This car was not streetable. He had to move it to different events on a trailer because it was so loud. He did a little test drive around his house and man, it was really loud. The whole block came outside and were very pissed off.

Not to mention that the car was in San Diego, Ca.

3.5" exhaust is pretty big. Unless you plan to only drag race your car then, go for it. But, if you want it streetable, just go with a good 3" exhaust and you will be fine. Check out Roadraceengineering.com and see the DIY section and they have everything you need to fab up your ouwn exhaust. Heck, the made a full 3" for a galant vr4 for $350ish with resonators and all.

If you call up roadrace, talk to robert and ask him about this stuff and he'll let you know what your looking for and the limits of whatever size system you are thinking of.

If you are going to build your own system, and have aspirations of high HP, why not make 3.5" or 4". The great thing about modding your car is, it's yours and you have the ability to make the decision to do what you want with it.

( Except for ground clearance that is ) :thumb:

I built a 4" turbo back for my 2G out of mandrel bends and pipe sections, it has more ground clearance than the former 3" Apex Dunk system. It's all about how much time you want to put into it when making something like this. Take your time and design it well, it will fit and work flawlessly. Hack and rig it up, and that's what you get.

A large exhaust isn't as loud as you would think, I used a 14" body 6" diameter round Magnaflow muffler and I've heard louder cars that had only a fart can. Most likely not "Peoples Republic of California" friendly though. :D

thats the great thing about turbo cars, its hard to make them sound bad and they dont generally get as loud of n/a.. Like i mentioned eariler ive been running open 3in dp for nearly 3months and havent gotten pulled over. ( Of course im in Fl. Its not as strict here, I wouldnt dare do that when I go to cali.)

Also yes the better the exhaust system is constructed as far as fitment wise, the better clearance itll have, but i believe gsxs have more clearance than gsts considering ours has to pass over the stock rear sway bar and theres not much room on that corner.
