I JUST BOUGHT A 99 GSX AND SAVED ABOUT AN EXTRA 2OOO TO SPARE ON MODS. IM IN A BET RIGHT NOW WITH A FRIEND THAT I CAN BEAT HIM IN HIS 96 TRANS AM.. ALL HE HAS IS A SHIFT KIT, INTAKE AND EXHAUST.. MY GSX HAS A K&N A/F, BOV, AND EXHAUST (CAT BACK) AS OF RIGHT NOW.. ANY GOOD SUGGESTIONS :dsm:

1. How did you type in capital I can't for some reason.

2. There are countless threads on here that cover all the basics and you need to search.

For 2000 dollars I would first spend it all on maintainance, mostly changing the timing belt and components, all fluids, belts and well you get the picture. Then you let her breathe by buying a 3inch catback and exhaust, hard pipes for cause the stock ones are restictive. Get a boost gauge and remove that A/F gauge its not wideband, you can plug it in your butt then fart and see how many LEDs you can light up. Buy a walboro 190 or 255 but will need a AFPR to adjust fuel pressure, then get you a manual boost controller so you can turn up your T-25 to 16psi. Call back when you do that because there is more but just do that for now young grasshopper.

Yea Did Some Of That Already.. Had The Coolant Flushed, Trans.f. Flushed, The Guy I Got It From Said He Had The T Belt Replaced 20k Ago. It Has 122k On It Right Now. The Drive Belts Are New Also.

As Afro said there are many ways to spend 2k. Your car has the basics on it already, the next thing would be boost gauge and mbc set to 16psi. DATA LOGGER! A wide band, a 190 fuel pump and some EVOVIII injectors. Oh yeah and a way to toOn the injectors. ECMlink would be the best way but if you are not going that far a safc will do the trick!

A back up car. You'll likely break it taking only part of our suggestions to heart and forgetting the other part that keeps you on the road. :)

What is your wheel horsepower goal? Or track goal?

i was planning on puttin out about 400awhp. lookin for enough to humiliate my friends trans Am.. maybe 12's would be fine for me... im going to have about 3000 to spare now.. my friend wanted to bet 500 that i would never be able to beat his V8.. so now i dug a little deeper and got another 1000 to spare.. and i have 4 months til race day..

Assuming you have done all your maintenance and your car is up to par, a good street and pump gas friendly turbo would be a 50 trim or a evo316g with a good tune.
Both turbos are great and can put out good numbers. I would say go to Forced Performance Turbochargers and take advantage of the $499 sale one the evo3 16g's, get a set of 650 cc injectors, walbro 255, aeromotive fpr, and an safc/2 or dsmlink and up the boost to 22 psi. You should run hard enough to keep up with your buddy.
I have a friend who made 307hp at a dynojet down here in miami with that setup and a few other bolt ons and beats on srt4's, mustang gt's (01+), and even a dsm with a 50trim.

Yeah, you need to have a honduh lined up on the side. With your goals and being eager to beat that TA.

Do your setup right. You want 400hp, get you a Holset. Won't cost you much, but they have some nasty diesel turbos. This way it will leave you with enough money for supporting mods, Ecmlink which with a eprom and socketing it will run you about 1k. Great to tune the shit out of your car.

In my opinion, since you have the advantage of awd, and with your 2-3k budget, you can build yourself a killer 16g setup and never worry about spinning from the quick response of the turbo.
I can't do anymore 1st gear runs on my car, it's useless with my evo316g. You're awd and my friend's 97 tsi awd with a small16g pulls pretty good for the little bolt ons he has. AWD FTW !

Agreed. My friend bought a stock 98 GSX and it was all stock with the t-25. When he launched against some pretty modded cars he had 2-3 cars on them, till they caught up to him. AWD>FWD. But with FWD you won't have to worry about the drivetrain issues, leaking t-case...... Lol.

hey i see you're from ventura, i live in Oxnard, so wats up . like the others said , get your maintanence up to date . if you have then i say invest on dsmlink and a wideband first. my .02

Like 805 saiod. First get all your car's monitoring goodies out of the way ( boost gauge, oil pressure gauge, wideband kit ) and then worry about mbc and a tuning device. This way you will have the right stuff to monitor your car while tuning it without running blind.

nice.. like all the input every1 is giving me.. yea i have a 2005 audi A4 for a DD.. so im gonna have a little more patience to deal with this project car since i have a back up ride.. should i get the head gasket replaced also since im going to be puttin alot more boost through it...

The stock head gasket can hold quite a good amount of punishment, but if you have the funds and want to run on the safe side, upgrade the head gasket and head studs while you're at it as well.

buy another car for a 1000 for a daily driver and buy 1000 in upgrades for the other car.DSM link if I had the money that is the first thing I would get. And I had no idea that nos stickers made 50 HP I thought it was 100 HP LOL. You should be able to take the trans am now no.

bro getcha a evo III big 16g, that t-25 wont cut it if your trying to beat a trans-am...you have an advantage with exhaust and everything so get some fuel mods be it injectors 560 660 720 etc...and a fuel management system such as a safc or gredd E manage, and a fuel pump sas stated on here many times wlboro 190 or 255 n a AFPR and you should be set man..

dude, its sad no one else has posted anything as far as internals yet, but i promise if you upgraded to some lightweight rods & pistons, you would be VERY happy with the results. my car is stock except for the rods & pistons, and iv got the 1.8. and before anyone says any thing, I've smoked the shit out of a couple of 2.0s in my hometown running a ton of mods.

less engine weight = less resistance + more power

oh, and badass pistons will only run you about $700 for the set

I love stock. Try jumping like 4-5 cars, then shattering a trans in the process. :ohdamn: I hate that VHT track bite. I may of only made it to the 60ft mark, but how hard my car came out of the hole, was "the fastest I ever saw" said the employee at the track.

audiomaster has a point... thats why SOME little hondas are quick

Some one please inform me of why light weight internals are good? Why would you just not make a N/A motor like 14:1 compression and put you a nice head, and some amazing cams in it? Is that what the Honduh people not do?
