I am going to change out my struts and put on lowering springs and new struts. Do I need a spring compressor if I'm only taking the whole assembly out that's still attached to the strut?

If you are taking out the whole Assembly then no compressor is needed to remove it from the vehicle.
But to remove the top hat from that assembly some people would say use a spring compressor . Ive never needed one on all the dsm suspensions ive done. Its not as pressurized as people think. Simply stand it up push down on it and take off or install the nut. It takes maby 100lbs to compress it eanuf.
StephensToySpyde r. That is not a very educated answer.

i just did all 4's. as a tip to take the FRONT assembly out follow this
.take tire off
. remove the sway bar nut(14mm or 12mm cant remember) from the knuckle
. jack up the knuckle until you can push the sway bar link from the knuckle( you wont be able to remove it unless you do it this way, and its going to have to be jacked up about 4 inches)
. lower the knuckle
.remove the lower strut bolt(17mm) from the knuckle
.now, remove the pinch bolt(17mm) from the strut( this will drop the strut arm).
. finally, remove the 3 strut tower bolts(14mm) from inside the engine bay and remove the strut assembly.

to remove the the spring:
use a cresent wrench or appropiate open end wrench to hold the strut piston
. use a 17mm wrench to unbolt the strut retainig nut.
when you get to the end it will "pop" off just so you know. just be careful. Its really not that much pressure as mentioned above.
. install in the reverse order.

REAR
.2 phillips screws for the strut cover in the trunk area.
. remove lower strut bolt(17mm)
remove the top 2 nuts in the strut cover panel.
. slide it out from the bottom
