Ok so i bought my first dsm.(95 gst)supossibly it has a 6bolt swap not to sure(will put pics later) but what i dont get is that it has no cas plugged in it and the cas is used for fuel and spark timing if i am not wrong. And it still drives and runs. Can anyone help? thanks

if its a 6bolt it will have a cas its on the end of the intake cam on the opposite side of the cam gears.

another way that u can tell its a 6bolt is the intake manifold. 7bolts dont have words on it.

you mite not have a 6bolt.

You can put a 7 bolt head on a 6 bolt block so thats not a sure way to tell if its 6 or 7 bolt. You can tell by looking at the oil pan.
How to quickly tell a 6bolt and 7bolt engine apart

Thanks everyone well I found out today that it is a 7bolt by the oil pan which really sucks it has about 111,xxx miles on it I am scared of crankwalk:toobad:.So now I am guessing that the 2gen doesnt need both cas and crank position sensor?<br>

Don't be scared about crankwalk... That is a horror story that is grossly exaggerated. I'd be willing to wager that there are far more 7 bolts that don't and will most likely never crankwalk than those that do or will. Thats like saying that the largest killer in America is heart disease, it doesn't mean that most people will die from it.

Your right, its just something that's going to be in the back of my head..Well i have my head gasket to do as well its burning antifreeze but still boosting strong so will see maybe at least he did some internals but i am not counting on it.

I wouldn't worry about the crank walk.

That CAS is a 1g 91-92, so you don't need the crank sensor -- that CAS does both.

I'm surprised no one is angry yet about his vented BOV. :p

Ok so what the previouse owner did was put a 2gen intake cam on a 1gen head which is on my car correct? And whats wrong with a vented bov???

causes the car to idel like crap and run like crap. this is because the ecu thinks that the air is going to go back into the intake tube. if it doesnt it doesnt burn all the fuel it should. somtimes it will cause black smoke. best thing to do is make it go back into the intake tube or go speed density so you can vent with no issues

Only the 95s have the CAS on the cam gear, all other 1gs and 2gs have it on the other side of the engine. It looks like some sort of head swap was done by the previous owner and he re used the 95 cam gear and sensor so he wouldn't have to re wire anything to use the other style CAS.

Yeah it really confused me i never seen anyone do that so I need a second opinions. Thanks everyone for helping!

Recirculate your BOV, and dont worry about the cas. It looks like the previous owner just put one in there with plans of wiring it up OR just lost the rubber cap that usually blocks that place in a 95.

The Cam Angle Sensor only controls the Ignition spark timing and has nothing to do with your fuel.

My guess is the guy just didn't have anything to plug the hole after the swap. Couldn't you call the guy you bought it from and just ask him what he was doing/did.

96 Has it under the cam sprocket as well.
