2gen flywheel

are the gst flywheel and the gsx flywheel the same? someone told me there different. mine is a 7 blot.

Sorry to revive an old post.

I was wondering if i would be able to use a flywheel and clutch from a 95 gst on my 97 gsx? ( i know above it says its smaller, but im in need of my car asap)

My car messed up and i dont have the money to purchase a new one. My bro-in-law has one lying around from his gst; And i was wondering i if could use it so i would be able to fix my car as it is my DD.

naw it wont work....do u need a awd flywheel?i got a stock 7bolt awd flywheel but no clutch

No it will not work, because the starter wont be able to engage with the teeth on the flywheel.

well i dont really need to replace the clutch(just a thought). But i DO need the flywheel, i purchased a new throw out bearing from Mitsu, just didn't have money for a flywheel...

Would it matter if i used a new one or the used one? My buddy suggested to just wait and replace with new parts while im in there(Clutch, Flywheel). Would it be worth the wait for new parts? I wont have any income till Jan 18th.

A used flywheel is nothing to be afraid of. As long as the teeth aren't chewed to hell, you're good to go. Too bad you don't need a FWD one...I have a perfectly good Clutch Masters sitting in my shop.

The FWD flywheel has a slightly larger ring gear compared to the AWD one. If you get the wrong flywheel then either your starter won't engage the flywheel and spin freely (in the awd flywheel in a fwd trans) or the flywheel will not allow the trans to be mounted (fwd flywheel with awd trans).

Exactly. The flywheels friction surface is the same on all turbo engines, just the ring gear is a hair smaller on the awd to clear the output shaft going to the transfer case.

I feel like an idiot, I just re-read my post, I was thinking why is everyone referring to a flywheel. I meant to say pressure plate.

No big deal tho. Yes, the only difference in the entire clutch assembly is the flywheel. Pressure plates, disks, etc. is all the same regardless of FWD or AWD.

... Thanks for the info, I've been stressing since this is the first prob ive had with my gsx. Besides blowing couplers off, Since its my DD.
