put a 2gen transmission in a 1g and have everything hooked up minus the clutch slave and the top transmission mount. car has been sitting a few months. and i started it today to hear probably the worst shit i have ever heard. just loud clanking so i immediately shut it off and stormed outta there. wtf happend. i dont even wanna start it again, i fear something is gonna break. good chance i will be parting this whole thing out. i cant really describe the sound, but it was loud.

Hook up the mount and make sure all of your bellhousing bolts are properly torqued, it may be something just as simple as the tranny clanking around under the hood.

yea i think i will hook the mount up and pray that i dont hear that sound. im hoping its not because its a 2gen tranny =(

bump!? would not having a transmission mount on cause that? even at idle?

Put the slave cylinder on it. Your probably hearing the clutch fork banging off the pressure plate. Actually you should make sure it's still on the pivot ball and the throwout bearing is still attached while your down there.

+1, same thing happened to me. Loud noise (not SUPER loud, but definitely didn't sound 'right') and clutch wouldn't work... we forgot the slave cylinder ROFL

Pulled the tranny back off to make sure everything was still ok, tossed it back on and I was driving down the road in less than two hours from the original 'mistake'
