Hi, first off let me tell a little of my story so you can understand my questions more.
I just put about 12-15 grand into my car in last few months and two and a half weeks ago I took my car to the shop (ZiggyBuilt performance) to get my cams installed, dump tube made, SD bundle bungs welded and wired, AC fan taken out and t belt and tensioner done. He also put in a few lifters to get rid of my tick. Well that was supposed to take three to four days tops he said and only $500 because he owed me money. Well two and half weeks later and $1380 out my pocket I picked up my car and put a idle tune on it to drive home.
I litterally drove down the street to a auto store called smothers to get a breather filter for my valve cover and I went back out to start my car and it wouldn't start. I check my lap top and DTC was 0340 crank angle sensor malfunction. I kept trying to start the car and it would just turn and turn but not start. I waited and I activated fuel pump on to get some gas flowing and then I tried to start it and applied some throttle and got it to start but it didn't sound right. It idled right, but if I touched the peddle to fast the engine would buck a little and want to die so I backed off. If I touched it slightly the RPMs would go up but didn't sound/feel like the engine was running right, so I shut it off.
I got on the phone and started searching and searching and jacked my car up right there in smothers parking lot to try to find the problem. I got the tire off, crank pulley and lower cover off and the sensor seemed fine by visual.
I tried to crank it again and this time no matter what it wouldn't start at all.
My questions are:
Could I have damaged something by starting the car if the sensor was bad?
Would the car even start if I'm getting that code? (If the sensor was really bad)
Should I just go ahead and buy a sensor and have the guy at ZiggyBuilt put it in? (The car is at his shop I had to tow it to the shop)
Could any of these symptoms be because of something going wrong with all the work the guy has done on my car?
Personal opinions would be much appreciated.
Thank you for reading and all advice and help is much appreciated.
