THis is my first post on these boards. Right now, I have a completely stock 95 eclipse GST with 17" rims. My first move is going to be a 95 to 97 conversion as well as a suspension drop. I have read everyones post and basically what I need is a complete list of everything I would need to replace the air dam w/ 97 head and fog lights, side skirts, rear bumper cover, and turbo spoiler. Also, as someone w/ little body work experience, could I possibly do it on my own or would I be better off having it done professionally? If it is possible to do it on my own, has anyone put together step-by-step instructions?

As far as air dams go, is urethane nessary for those of you with drops? I saw a urethane air dam that was exactly like the stock 97-99 without the mitsubshi symbol on ebay. Anyone know of any online shops that sell them? And I dont quite understand what pieces actually consist of the side skirts for the conversion. Are the lower door panels ( about 3" thick on the bottom of the door) part of the side skirts or different on the 97-99. I need to replace this piece on the driver side to a deep scratch.

Another piece I need to replace is the 1" black trim arond the driver/passenger windows. It comes in 2 pieces. One along the base of the window and the other channels whater around the top of the window down to the mirror. Mine is starting to flake and rust. I found a 1G replacement but have yet to find it for a 2G.

Ill try to post some pics of exactly what I am talking about.

Thanks

Replacing the bumper and skirts are pretty easy and anyone with basic automotive skills should be able to figure it out. The spoiler however is a tricky fix. I and my brother have autobody skills and welding skills, but I opted to have a shop do it because if you heat up the metal to much when welding the trunk, you run the risk of shattering the rear glass.

The door cap that goes with the 97+ skirts is different from the 95-96.

The aftermarket bumper covers like the one on ebay are nice. But my view is nothing beats the quality of an OEM body part.

Black trim- Just order it from Partznet.

OEM is definately the way to go.:thumb:

Sometimes the cheap rip offs just dont meet quality or even go on like OEM parts!

Alright does anyone know how the doorcaps from 95-96 look with the 97-99 side skirts. Is it a HUGE difference or whatnot?

The 95 doorcaps look like crap with the 97 + sideskirts. Towards the back of the door they stick out almost farther than the sideskirts. Just not right. You can go without the doorcaps and that looks alright IMO. But I would get the correct doorcaps. I found mine at M&S recycling. Checkout their website.

- can anyone cover what kind of modification needed to do this?

- dont they use different bracketing?

- will it fit bolt on?

- can anyone be more specific about the procedure i.e. what you need to buy what you need to watch out and what you need to do?

- i'm thinkin to convert my 95 gs in to 99 complete front, sides, rear and foglights and everything!

- is it just me or cost of doing this and buying a bodykit is almost equal?

Nothing really major on the conversion. It's pretty straight forward.

The Front end will bolt right up but you do need 97+ headlights.

The horn needs to be moved as the original bracket is removed.

The fog lights bolt up fine but the connector is different so I had to hard wire mine.

The original front bumper was a bear to get off as there are two plastic type screws under the headlights and I couldn't get the headlights off to get at the screws. Just broke them. Once they were broke the bumper came right off and then the lights.

Side skirts and door caps match right up. You can't mix and match the door caps with the sideskirts as they look crappy if you do. Go with the 97 + or stick with the '95.

The rear bolts right up too. The only thing is that the Reverse lights need to have the wires extended on them as the 97+ lights are farther apart. That is it.

I have pics of the job so if you want them let me know.

I am still confused about what the side skirts include. I know it is (door cap, end cap, and skirt)*2, but what pieces are those. Could someone post a pic of what these pieces are?

I just recieved my headlights. I am still trying to decide between a stock front bumper or that one that is always on ebay with the emblem shaved ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33640&item=2414500729 ). Does anyone know if this bumper fits/stands up as well as a the stock bumper? I would rather have the clean look rather than use a sticker or that chrome RICE symbol.

Here's the deal on the side pieces. Go to www.bomexaero.com. It will ask you if you want to go to the Japanese site. Say ok. Then on the Japanese site you will see a blue bar towards the top of the screen. On this bar it will say english site. Then go there. There is an installation guide with PDF files for the front rear and side. showing you were the screws and bolts are and diagrams too. I found it very helpful when I did my conversion. The only thing not shown is the door caps. These are pieces that attach to the bottom of each door to blend the body into the sideskirts. If you have them then you can remove them by just popping them off. You will see the holes in you door for the retaining pins then. If you don't have them and intend to get them you need to drill the holes or just 3M tape the skirts on the car.
As far as the front bumper on Ebay I am not sure. Heard they were bad but I am not sure. Most likely they are fiberglass and that cracks and breaks easier than the OEM Polyuerethane. So if you live in a northern state and see cold weather you might want to think about it a bit before buying. I have also been told the fiberglass kits never match up perfectly and people have to rivet the side skirts to the car and such. I would go with the stock poly stuff as it is less hassle and you can easily change it around yourself. I hope I have answered your questions right.

Good Luck, :thumb:

I was wondering if I could put a 97 front bumper on a talon on my car? Thanks...oh yeah I drive a 1995 gst eclipse.

Looks like a brand new car. I want to do the front end but keep my talon-ass.. I love the look of the talon rear..

Not hard to do is it? Got a side view of your car with the new bumper and no new side skirts?

The front is easy, but the rear is a pain in the ass. Here is a side ahot:
