First off I want to say I love this forum, never had to post so far as I can usually search for a little bit and find what I'm looking for but this connections identity has eluded me thus far. So, this may be a newb question or maybe I overlooked something somewhere but here goes. I have a 2g tsi AWD and the other day it started acting like the power transistor was going out (tach jumping around like crazy and misfiring to the point of undrivable but only after it warmed up). So I tested the power transistor and the coil packs with a multimeter and they both came out okay but I went ahead and replaced the power transistor with a new one just to be sure because everything I could find online pointed to the power transistor. Well replacing it didn't do anything so I started looking for broken wires or any kind of short or unplugged connection. I found a two pin female connector underneath the intake manifold on the driver side that was unplugged. I plugged it back in and it started running great. Now the tach will jump maybe once every few days but not very often at all, (maybe the plug doesn't have the best connection?) The connector plugs into 2 prongs, it doesn't look like a normal male electrical connector. My question is what is this connector and what does it do? I don't know if I did something else that made the car run better and this connection was just coincidence or if this connection is my problem. I unplugged many many connections under the hood that day and maybe one of those connectors had a bad connection until I unplugged it and reconnected it. I'm not sure. I have searched and searched online and found nothing. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

That doesn't look familiar to me, and I've had the area of the car apart many times. The only that runs under that bracket that supports the intake manifold from the factory is some vacuum lines related to the EGR. I don't remember a square head connector though. There's a triangular shaped connector in that are for the AC. Does the car have anything aftermarket electrical installed on it ... like maybe a O2 wideband ... maybe it's routed down to the exhaust pipe.

At any rate, you should be able to follow the in and out lines and trace them back to wherever they come from and figure out what it is.

I feel stupid, sure enough its for the ac. Obviously that's not what solved my problem, thanks for the reply, sorry to waste your time. On a different note, is it possible to delete my own thread? At this point it's a waste of space. :ohdamn:
