St. Catharines,
Hey i recently had my transmission rebuilt with ipt rebuild kit, shift kit and high stall torque converter. since the tranny was rebuilt i find it drops down into gear very hard when im coming to a stop. It does it more as the car heats up. I also find sometimes when i first start the car and go to leave the transmission wont go into gear. But if i turn it off then back on, it will be fine. any ideas, possibly tcu?

Solution
I have a couple post on the ongoing transmission problems I've been having with my 97 Talon TSi auto.

Today I talked to IPT and i think we have figured out the problem. I bought a new engine for the car before I installed the rebuilt transmission. But the crank was from a manual and the pilot bearing depth wasn't long enough to mate the engine and tranny. So I took the pilot bearing out and machined it through. After doing that the transmission mated and seemed to have no problems. But apparently there is a specific auto pilot bearing that's suppose to go there, so the torque converter has prob floated and crushed the pump causing my problems.

I will be getting the proper bearing and get the transmission pulled.
Sounds like your solenoids are bad or the wiring to them are bad. Drop the pan and use an ohm meter to check resistance. I don't know the correct values off the top of my head. Also inspect the wiring and see if its brittle. It make a connection, jiggle a little, then not make a connection. The plug for the solenoids is the one infront of the transmission. It has 4 wires if it's a lock up, 3 if not (you wont have the red wire). Check to see those are contacting nicely.

If IPT used green clutches (which I use) when they bed in, they cause a
grey slime in your fluid which cloggs your filter within a few thousand miles.
Time for a simple filter change & new fluid. It should wake up again then.
Try that before someone says you need the box out bullshit line.
Cheers !

my haynes doesn't mention the ohms either it says just take it to a specialist. Anyone got an idea of what they should be?

Probably your valve body. They're more than just "known" to go bad. I have seen no reverse/ third gear issues a lot. Also 2/3 bind up and no fourth. To hydrastas: if your prindle switch or shifter cable is out of adjustment then your TCU doesn't know what to do electronically, so do make sure that is adjusted before you condemn the entire thing.

I'm sure it's not the cable it checks out. About the filter being clogged, would the inline filter on the tranny cooler get clogged as well cause i changed my tranny filter to no luck. Did i forget to mention that it has trouble engaging in any gear when cold but when the temp is as warm as it gets the car comes to rough stops at traffic lights etc when downshifting into 1/2 as well. Could a simple little filter on the tranny cooler line being clogged cause those or no?
