I just rebuilt the engine in the eclipse and put it in hooked it up and everything primed it and pulled the fuse to turn it over before starting it, It turned over fine. Then put the fuse back in and heard this horrible sound first thought it was the engine but it wasnt, it was the starter not engaging the flywheel properly. So thinking it might be bad i picked up a new one, and still same issue. This is the same flywheel i used before so I know the flywheel isnt the issue. The new starter is doing the same thing also. The engine turns over just fine by hand, but the starter doesnt seem to be engaging right. I tightened all the transmission bolts, i checked the flywheel teeth all are good. I cant think what to check, I have never had this issue before. Also the timing hasnt jumped because we have checked that. I was talking to a friend today and he said something about spacers for the starter but I have found nothing DSM related to support that. And im using the same spacer plate that originally came with the car.

I just finished up my build and noticed the wire that clips on to the starter, the piece that holds it to must have broken off when i removed the engine. So when i try to start it, it will turn over than i have to push the wire back on to the gold contact as the voltage i guess pushes it off. My next option i guess is to go to the junkyard and get another, bit before i did that i was wondering if anyone had any other tricks they where using. Its really frustrating to have to pop the hood in the rain and mess with this cable when Im away from home. I just noticed the problem so the car won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Any help would be great.

I bought a pack of female spade terminals from wally world, and spliced it into the wire, crimped it barely closed and shoved it onto the terminal, stays pretty well so far. Did it as a temp fix because mine broke too, but i'll eventually goto the JY and replace it.
