2G 2g shifter modifications?

So I saw an old thread from 2014 talking about how someone modified their shifter but didn't talk about proper shift stops and I was wondering how I could go about designing some on my shifter, is it as easy an welding a block of steel wherever the gear grabs?

The other shifter mod involves cutting and extending 2 parts of the shifter to shorten the throws.

I'm curious as for what reason? I used the oem shifter for a good 16 years and other than rebuilding it with new bushings throughout, I didn't feel it needed any sort of stops.

Im happy with my shifter but id like a shorter throw,
The stops are so that (if u extend the shifter points like the pictures above) you dont prematurely grenade your transmission by overextending the forks whenever you shift, as the extended arm will travel further

I've yet to encounter that in 17 years of racing my car.

Yes because you have the oem shifter, the stops are only necessary if you modify like i showed above

Mine was modified, not quite to that extent but it was cut and rewelded to change the length and throw.

I see, im probably overthinking it then like usual, the thread i saw said they lengthened by 2 1/4”, someone else said they did 3/4”, about how much did you do if you remember?
