2G runs cold at speed, warms up at idle.. Is my thermostat stuck open?

At idle the car warms up normally.

I have the coolant offset a bit, so at 200º the fan cycles on normally until the coolant temps drops, then it cycles off.

If I get on the freeway, the temp drops steadily, down to the 160's. If I pull off and idle, the temps creep back up to normal.

Thermostat?

My car does this too, when i replace the thermostat it works and is good for a month or two then does it again, i replaced it many times already.

Cold as in what temp?

It could be that your fans arent working all that well or maybe not at all. If that is the case then it makes sense that the car cools down while moving.
fan cycles on normally

Ordinarily that would make sense, given that most of the temperature problems addressed here are overheating related. However, my car is not overheating while idling, then returning to normal while driving.. it's operating normally when idling and cooling in excess of the normal operating temperature when being driven.

:thumb: BRB... I think the issue is obvious at this point.

Thermostat rubber is essentially destroyed. The parts that remain are brittle and rock hard. This is the original thermostat ROFL I just never knew it stopped functioning correctly because I've always had a big DVDT cooler blocking air flow to the radiator, and the problem was always overheating (so the stat was always supposed to be open anyways - with the exception of warmup, but then again I live in southern AZ). Thanks for the help!!

Just started happening to me last night, after a 2hr drive home from Sacramento i got off the freeway and decellerating to a light the temp gauge would drop, then take forever to rise back to normal (usually the 2nd squiggly line). Fuel mileage also took a serious hit driving just from the freeway to my house, drank 1/8 tank. Not overheating at all though, so thankfully its just stuck open.

138k on her, id bet money its original tstat as well. Guess I know what ill be doing later today......
