I desperatley need to replace my rear upper knuckle bushings and I was wondering for those who have replaced them, what is involved? I know I need to torch out the old ones and press in the new ones, but do I need to take off the whole brake assembly?

I'm looking into doing mine this weekend. I have a set of bushings from Gary at mitsugraveyard. I asked about the method and got no response. My thoughts are to burn/chisel out the old ones and see if a gear puller will push in the new ones. Maybe a C clamp. The other possibility is to remove the metal tube, cut the bushing in half, put the halves in and put the tube in. Thowing my thoughts out should spawn some comments from experienced people!

2 ways . . .

1) Press them out with a hydraulic press

2) Burn the rubber out, then cut the metal sleeves out with a hacksaw or dremel tool

An option to burning the rubber out is to take a drill and drill the centers out.

Have fun! :D

First I'd like to say sorry for not responding to the guy asking about removing them.

It's pretty simple since there broken already, just cut or push out the broken rubber if needed cut it out with a jig saw or sawzall. Once that's out carefully cut 2 grooves in the metal sleeve that surrounds the rubber bushing (this makes the sleeve collapse easier) then if you have a chisel gun (air chisel )just start chiseling it. It comes right out, you'll need ether a vise or press to push in the new bushings.

good luck
