Alright guys and gals. I have a problem. I need to find an oil filter housing for my car. I got a 97 eclipse GST. It cracked around the oil pressure sending unit and spewing oil out. how do you change those, I can't find it in my repair manual anywhere, and what price are they?? where can I get them from.

I would personaly go to the junk yard try to get one. No offense but your asking basic questions that are easy to find the answer to.

For a little help, try calling the Mitsu dealer, or Slowboy racing gets factory parts, so does Mach V. replacing the unit is easy and the details on replacing the housing are in my Chilton manual, I also bought a factory manual online and the details are in there too.

Well I fiqured the dealer or junkyard, but I was wondering if anyone knows any aftermarket places that carry them, because the junk yards around here never have a turbo DSM in them, and rarely a non-turbo. I've never changed one of these before, and all my hanes manual shows is just the oil cooler for replacing, doesn't explain anywhere in there how to change the oil filter housing...or is there a different name they're known by?

awesome thanks. I never even saw it on extreme psi when I looked earlier! again, thanks!

You could also use this opportunity to move to an air cooled housing, or perhaps a Triple F housing if you wanted to eliminate the extra water lines/possible leak spots.

Thats cause its 4-bolts there is one hiding behind the crank pulley. So you would have to pull the crank pulley and bend the timing belt cover back a little.:thumb:

Thanks, I was wondering why everyone missed this. Here's a step-by-step:

1. Drain oil
2. Remove crank pulley (makes things easier)
3. Locate the FOURTH (you should see the other 12mm bolts easily) 12mm bolt underneath the timing belt cover. You will have to remove some of the 10mm timing cover bolts in order to lift up the cover itself. UNBOLT THIS ONE FIRST.
4. optional - drain coolant, If it's a stock 7 bolt water cooled OFH, there will be a water line on the OFH. DISCONNECT coolant line
5. Unbolt the other 3 12mm bolts.
6. Shimmy off OFH.
7. Clean off the gasket and make sure the surfaces are CLEAN AND DRY before reinstalling. DO NOT USE a tremendous amount of RTV on the gasket, if at all. I like to put a very thing layer of black/grey RTV on my gaskets prior to installing. TORQUE to spec.

x2! I just did this on my 6 bolt. That one bolt behind the timing cover is a PITA! A ratcheting wrench will come in hand here!

thanks guys!! anyone know the torque ratings on those bolts? and ya, I already picked up a set or ratcheting wrenches...and can't believe I ever worked on my car without them!! do you put any thread sealant on that big bolt that holds the oil cooler to the bracket, so that it doesn't come off?

^ You, sir, need to pick yourself up a service manual. Go look on eBay.

Also, when installing the OEM oil pressure gauge to the oil housing, don't forget to add some sealant on to the threads (or weld that sucker in place). You can lose tons of oil if it starts to drip on a constant basis (like mine is :().

I do have a service manual, but it doesn't cover the oil filter bracket...so it doesn't give me the torque ratings on the bolts. thanks for everyones help though. I should be getting the piece today via ups...

awesome, thanks. You don't by chance have those torque specs for the bolts do you?? my Haynes manual doesnt' cover the torque specs for those bolts...atleast not that I can find.

Bringing this back up. From step 7, do they sell a gasket for the ofh and when removing the crank pulley, I won't have to mess with the timing belt do I?

Is there a gasket that I can pick up for the ofh? And another dump question, are there marks to line it back up?

yes, there is a gasket for that, Just search, DSM 2G OIL FILTER HOUSING GASKET, OR DSM 2G OIL FILTER BRACKET GASKET, and it will show up, also when you don't find them, just use images, and it will show it, click on one and it will bring you to the store if it is on sale.

Good luck.:thumb:
