So my brother has a 95 2gnt and it started idling very rough. This progressed to misfiring BAD under heavy load. Got the cel checked and it came up with a bad coil. I then tested the coil and the primary was way out on one side. We went ahead and replaced it but the problem persisted. Anyone have any ideas on where to look next. Also on the connector and pin to the coil one side was very black(side that tested bad). Its got new plugs, wires, and coil.

I recently put new plugs in to no avail. I was wondering if there was any other way to diagnose the ecu for sure without buying another one. Also, can i put an ecu from a different year 2gnt 5spd in the this 95? Thanks for the input so far guys.

see the thing is that, the 95 ecu's acually have a recall on them that you cant find, only mechanics really have that access, unless you have access to alldata, see there was a recall for the secondary air valve to be taken out which they never reflashed the ecu to the 96 version, also there was a hidden recall on the ECU stating that sometimes if you run a higher octane fuel it will cause the p0505 code to flash on this is Idle Air Circuit Malfunction, so to be honest the the 95 ECU is junk ass, you may get lucky from a dealership to reflash it for you for free but like i said the Recall for those issues arent very known and only some mechanics will know about them. Even when I called Mitsu's corp number and registered my car they told me there were no recalls on my car yet EVERYONE knows that the 95 eclipse has them (go figure). and i have copys of those recalls from the corp.

I had something similar happen shortly after I bought my 2g; I was fearing the worst, but it turned out to be improperly gapped plugs. If you haven't, I'd start there for a possible $0 fix. I figure you probably already have, just thought I'd mention...

*edit* and I just now notice the post dates... the link showed up where it seemed it would be recent activity. LOL, a bit late to the party.
